Are you embrassed to be a wrestling fan?

Well what of it. Do you feel like a tool when you say you watch wrestling? Do you even say that? Or do you flip the channel really quick if you hear someone walking in the room?

I personally am not embrassed to be a wrestling fan. While I don't go around introducing myself as a wrestling fan, if it comes up in the natural course of a conversation, I'll mention it and go on. While I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm proudly a wrestling fan, in no way am I ashamed of it.

Discuss.

Kane Knight 05-07-2007 10:38 AM

PErsoanlly, the only thing I do that I'm ashamed of is my Cher impression at the local clubs. But you've gotta pay the bills...

No you don't. They don't have debter's prison in America, you don't have to pay shit.

Kane Knight 05-07-2007 11:31 AM

Hmmm. You're on to something there.

BigDaddyCool 05-07-2007 11:38 AM

Yes, but we really should get back on topic. Wow, that was the quickest tangent ever.

Impeccable 05-07-2007 11:39 AM

No. I don't care what other people think about me. I don't even think it's a case of "admitting" it. I have a love for wrestling and I don't care who knows it.

KingofOldSchool 05-07-2007 11:41 AM

No.

Jeritron 05-07-2007 11:41 AM

The fact that I am: no
how much of one I am: kinda

DAMN iNATOR 05-07-2007 11:44 AM

No, I am not embarassed of this fact at all.

Londoner 05-07-2007 11:46 AM

Depends on how good WWE is at the time, if they put on an embaressingly bad show like they did last week, that makes me ashamed, but other times im not.

Jeritron 05-07-2007 11:49 AM

I'm not ashamed that I like wrestling, but I don't feel the need to flont it or even let everyone in on it. Most of my friends don't like or care about wrestling, and they know I watch but probably think I'm more casual than I do. I have a few friends who love it too, so obviously they share the same thing.
Basically, I love wrestling but I'm not a wrestling tshirt kinda guy.

Rammsteinmad 05-07-2007 12:00 PM

I'm not ashamed of being a wrestling fan or wearing t-shirts or nothing... HOWEVER I do get extremely embarassed when someone happens to walk in the ring during a Boogeyman match or when Viscera happens to be doing his humping move.

That's not embarrassment over being a wrestling fan, it's embarrassment over WWE product.

Theo Dious 05-07-2007 12:21 PM

And I think we all have that.

To a certain extent, I would agree.

i'm not ashamed to be a wrestling fan.
I like wrestling and I realise its cheesy, but heck, I definatly see the finer points in watching WWE than something like will and grace or friends

The One 05-07-2007 01:02 PM

No. I don't bring it up usually, in fact I don't think a lot of my friends even know, not because I hide it, just, the topic never comes up. Though if people do get all "You know it's fake right?" all I need to do is tell them I did it briefly, and then they get all excited and ask me to show them how to do stuff.

Stickman 05-07-2007 01:48 PM

I never bring it up.

To clarify: I wasn't saying that WWE product is 100% embarrassing, but what wrestling fan wasn't embarrassed when Vince established the Kiss My Ass club, or when HHH screwed a facsimile of a corpse, or when DX dropped "shit" on the Spirit Squad?

I wasn't.

I thought it was shit. I'm not "embarrassed" when a band I like makes a bad record, or when a TV show I like makes a really bad episode, or whatever.

I watch WWE because I like wrestling. Just because some shit is stupid, odesn't make me embarrassed or ashamed. It might disappoint me. It might even anger me (Depending on the context and medium), but embarrassed because something stupid happened on a mainstream TV show?

Fuuuuuuuck no.

DAMN iNATOR 05-07-2007 03:14 PM

I guess I'm a little bit more open in my public expression of my love for WWE, in that unlike the person who says they're not a t-shirt person, probably a 1/3 of my t-shirts are WrestleMania ones or the classic DX one I have, and I got a couple hats too, but other than that, unless someone asks me about it it's like the Army for me: Don't ask, don't tell.

chrisat928 05-07-2007 03:29 PM

I love wrestling, never ashamed to admit it, course most of the time I'm usually wearing a wrestling related product, be it a shirt, sweater, hat, what have you. Whenever I leave my house I wear a hat, some days I choose a D'backs hat, sometimes it's a Stone Cold hat.
I own about 150 tshirts from the WWF/E, many jersies, baseball, football, and a few hockey, all are from WWF/E.
Most of them are kinda out of date, only about twenty are from the last two years.

Well, you've probably got way more wwf/e stuff than the average non-casual wrestling fan, that's for sure...

chrisat928 05-07-2007 04:09 PM

Most of the stuff is from the 90s, and I can't fit in to it anymore. When that happens I try to get it signed by whoever is on the shirt, alot eaiser than it sounds by the way. It's kind of weird to see Brother Ray, Brother D-Von, and Brother Runt sign a shirt as the Dudleys.

Anybody Thrilla 05-07-2007 04:09 PM

Everybody knows I love wrestling, and I don't care.

Jordan 05-07-2007 04:12 PM

I am ashamed, because its fucking retarded and fake but I still like it.

Anybody Thrilla 05-07-2007 04:13 PM

What's there to be ashamed of? It's just a TV show. I'd be more ashamed to watch I  New York.

Londoner 05-07-2007 04:15 PM

Given the amount of shit that people watch on Tv these days, I don't see why wrestling should be singled out. People act like their programmes are so superior yet they're just as fucking stupid/pointless and FAKE.

While I'm not a T-Shirt person, I do use wrestling catchphrases. Gestures, poses, and work wrestling references into conversation. Hell, on my town's message board, I responded to a third person rant with a "The Rock Says" rant. Ultimate Warrior and Booke T refs. I've got my friends saying "Da's no cool." I used to do the whole New Age Outlaws bit. Loud. Vocally.

There are definitely other ways to be open an expressive.

What I won't do:
  • Say "I'm a huge wrestling mark!"
  • Wear a T-Shirt. Most of them are ass anyway.
  • actively insist that people should watch WWE. It's not embarrassing, but their current product is not worth advertising.
What I will do:
  • Promote wrestling when there's something worth promoting. For a while there, TNA looked like it was gonna kick ass, so I hyped it.
  • Make wrestling references. Often.
  • Talk about the goods and bads. For example, I'm laughing with friends about the injured 'Taker in a cage match.

Yeah, no way is Smackdown worse than watching people eat worms or tonedeaf motherfuckers croon.

...It's lateral, at worst. ;)

That wont do list is the same as mine except i would add the make wrestling references to that list. I can't even be bothered talking about the goods and the bads unless its with another wrestling fan. But what I will do is shut up anyone who complains that its fake and uses that as a reason not to watch.

Funky Fly 05-07-2007 04:42 PM

I'm not gonna change the channel for anyone. Most of my friends are closet fans who were on the bandwagon back in the Attitude era.

Disturbed316 05-07-2007 04:44 PM

No I'm not, but it doesn't really come up much in conversation.

Blue Demon 05-07-2007 04:47 PM

I wear some shirts...I have an old school ECW shirt and a "Don't be an Ass clown" Jericho shirt.

Why should we have been ashamed to have an anti-American Muslim wrestler? Because people started protesting and basically forced WWE to take him off television? I thought he was pretty great, tbh.
