Kennedy not as bad as originally thought, returning sooner

Posted on WWE.com

Edge may not want to get too comfortable wearing the World Heavyweight Championship around his Rated-R waist. WWE.com has received word that the initial prognosis for Mr. Kennedy’s arm injury was overstated. Based on Kennedy’s extensive MRI at the Birmingham, Ala. offices of Dr. James Andrews, WWE’s Dr. Ferdinand Rios now reports that the SmackDown Superstar’s triceps tendon “was not torn from the bone as originally reported and will not require surgery.”

Due to the severity of Kennedy’s hematoma — a collection of blood within a tissue or organ — he is still not cleared to compete from a medical standpoint.

“He’s still vulnerable to injury and the arm remains badly swollen,” said Dr. Rios. “I’d expect him to be out of action for about six to eight weeks.”

Upon hearing the positive report, WWE.com caught up with the former Money in the Bank holder. Though clearly relieved, he’s already shifting his focus from a likely six months of recovery time to plotting his next move.

“This is great news for me; I don’t have a torn muscle,” Kennedy said. “But the good news for me is really, really bad news for Edge. He took something from me…took advantage of my unfortunate situation. Now he and everyone else have just a short amount of time to worry about what I’m going to do when I get back.”

------------

Good news for Smackdown. Kennedy was really catching on before the injury.

Go fuck yourself.

But always good news to hear that a wrestler is in better shape than originally thought.

But really, would it have killed them to keep the MITB on him and every week/show have him do a count down and maybe give him a talk show or something? I mean, even if they didn't plan to go all the way to Mania they could have done it after the injury healed.

There was really no reason to take it off him ASIDE from Taker's injury.

I was thinkin somethin like that too, it is good for a full year, and he did say it was gonna be used for Wreslemania. He could have done a countdown show or something like you had said.

Even so, they can still build him up through that time with non-wrestling segments. Not to directly compare the two, but after Austin injured his neck he stayed on TV. And for it, he got more popular. This is going to hurt Kennedy more than it helps him, especially because he had a year for buildup.

Better Than You 05-09-2007 10:13 PM

Oh yeah, Kennedy is fucked.

Still pretty stupid to have done.

What TOVO said.

XL 05-09-2007 11:01 PM

I wish they hadn't passed the MitB on now!

As much as Edge as champ is cool by me, I was looking forward to the build up around Kennedy.

I suggested in one of the other threads thay could have him do commentary or some other non-wrestling role for 6 months, it's not that long.

Now the prognosis has come back at barely 2 months it's an even bigger shame they didn't just stick with him.

KingofOldSchool 05-09-2007 11:02 PM

Edge being on Smackdown as a heel World Champion will bring a breath of fresh air we haven't seen since the days of the Wrestling...GOD.

If they can build Kennedy as Smackdown's top face, then things could work.

Xero 05-09-2007 11:10 PM

Kennedy/Edge at SummerSlam?

Corkscrewed 05-09-2007 11:33 PM

Even though it turns out they did jump the gun with MitB, I'd rather have Edge as champ than Batista. So I think there's a lot of potential for this situation, provided they don't botch it. *crosses fingers*

KingofOldSchool 05-09-2007 11:37 PM

The way I see is that I doubt Kennedy was going to actually keep the contract until Wrestlemania.

With the risk of Kennedy's injury ontop of Taker's injury, they needed to shake things up majorly.

Having Edge take out both Kennedy and Taker gives Edge even more of a rub, even though he is already over without it, but now this gives Smackdown a new number one heel and potentially a new number one face if done right.

Let Kennedy chase Edge all year, Kennedy wins the Rumble, and Kennedy beats Edge at Mania for the title.

Of course WWE can't plan that far ahead and Edge will drop it to Kennedy at Summerslam and it'll be Randy Orton all over again.

Kane Knight 05-10-2007 12:01 AM

Kennedy chasing the title til next Mania would work if they did it.

Shadow 05-10-2007 12:17 AM

...Whoops?

Mr. Nerfect 05-10-2007 12:25 AM

Kennedy chasing the title until WrestleMania could work. Feuds tend to sizzle out, though. I think they should strike while the iron is hot for this one. I'd wait no later than Summerslam before pulling the trigger on Mr. Kennedy. WrestleMania hasn't been a special PPV for so many years, and it's because what seems like a good idea now, doesn't end up being one several months later.

Edge vs. Kennedy should be a program that the WWE plans for in the short term. That's not to say it should be rushed, just don't take your sweet time with it.

Would be awesome as long as Kennedy is a good face.
So maybe Kennedy beats Edge @ summerslam or survivor series or something, then Taker comes back in to try and get the title back off Kennedy?

I'd actually really like that. Let's say he's back in September, we've got 5-6 months of some sweet title chasing.

As much as I didn't like the idea of Kennedy losing his MITB, I did think it was pretty unpredictable that he lost it. WWE has been ridiculously predictable in the past few years.

Now we can get a good story/angle with Kennedy chasing Edge for the title. I hope it goes that way.

That seems like the way they will go. Perhaps they could even do Mr. Kennedy defending against The Undertaker at WrestleMania in a face vs. face match. I'm not a big fan of the Kennedy/Taker series that everyone seems to drool over (Taker bores me, even on a good day), but it would be a pretty big match.

The Undertaker should not go over Kennedy, though. He got his one last title run. He fucked himself up. Too bad.

Nice.

darkpower 05-10-2007 03:23 AM

I'm going to be LOVING this, both because of some obvious stuff and something that everyone overlooked:
  • Kennedy/Edge would be an EXCELLENT program because both of them have about the same charisma level and their styles can play off of each other well. They can both move about the ring well and can entertain a crowd.
  • I've been saying for the LONGEST time that Kennedy should be face, and from the looks of things, we'll be seeing that. Edge is still the "person who fucked the manbitch Lita" in some minds, and with Kennedy picking up some pops from fans, things are looking like the WWE is going to go with a face Kennedy, or at least a tweener.
  • The part everyone overlooked: In all respects by now, we can safely assume that Edge HAS MOVED TO SMACKDOWN!! Think of it. Kennedy is on SmackDown! Edge is with the WHC, the SmackDown ME title. WWE is probably pushing a Kennedy/Edge feud. Who's NOT to think that Edge will be officially a SD star now? This is VERY good, because his RAW side was getting awfully stale. He had done EVERYTHING on RAW, and ECW wouldn't fit him. Keep Edge on SmackDown for a while. He could do a LOT there.

SammyG 05-10-2007 03:33 AM

i AGREE with you COMPLETELY

Dave Youell 05-10-2007 03:59 AM

How would you bring him back as a face after only an 8 week leave? Just wondering, after 6 months, yeah I could see it, but after 8 weeks, he's still in people's minds as a heel

SammyG 05-10-2007 04:12 AM

I can not wait for Kennedy to return

His last Raw, he acted pretty faceish, and leading up to that, he had mentioned how what Edge did as far as opportunistically using the Money in the Bank title shot when Cena had just finished his Elimination Chamber Match was "wrong". How do they turn wrestlers face that don't take any time off?

Also lol @ them rushing things with taking the title shot off.

....What?

PorkSoda 05-10-2007 10:12 AM

Does this mean Kennedy is gonna be world champ?

Edge can't hold onto the world title for more than a month.

...........MONTH!
