TNA is just sad....really sad

To anyone who saw Impact last night you would have seen Christy Hemme introduce "Basham" and "Damaja" I mean who coudlnt think of names like that. But seriusly even if those were names they used to use, You have to be more creative than that.

PepperCarrotMan 05-11-2007 02:19 PM

Yeah they should been creative like they were with Kip James and called them Limpy and Skimpy.

(Doug Basham would have a gimmick where he has a limp and Danny would wear revealing clothing)

The One 05-11-2007 02:22 PM

Of all the things you could point out as to why TNA is sad, you chose the formerly Basham Brother's current TNA name? Seriously?

I wanted to pick just one and I had just finished watching Impact from last night and they were the inspriration for the topic. I could go on and on about what makes TNA sad but I figured I stick to that one.

IC Champion 05-11-2007 02:37 PM

Sabin and Shelley Win, wait here comes Mr. Backlund.

Seeing as they've used the names BEFORE they went to TNA, I don't see it at a problem. Also seeing as every major federation and indie had wrestlers with crappy names, I can't see why to simply blame TNA for theirs.

If you wanted to attack TNA, try...
-WCW like storylines (created by Vince Russo)
-There biggest attraction (X-Division) made into a joke over the last few years.
-Making the same WCW mistake of hiring old WWF rejects, but ignoring new wrestlers that could be turned into stars.
-Crappy announce team (worst than WCW...doesn't help that one is a former WCW announcer).
-2-5 minute matches just to shove unneeded storylines into an hour...there isn't many lessons you can take from the old ECW, but making the most out of an hour is a good one.

The definitve stupidest thing going on in TNA right now is:

They're building this angle between Robert Roode and Eric Young for MONTHS. The big payoff? Jeff Jarrett versus Robert Roode. Ok, yeah, that makes sense. Meanwhile, Eric Young just gets beat up time and time again.

chrisat928 05-11-2007 03:15 PM

Problems with TNA?
Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Sting, Nash, Bob Backlund, Don West, Mike Tenay, Kip James, BG James, Vince Russo, The Set, The Ring, The Pyro, AJ Styles as a heel, Christopher Daniels as mini-Sting, Samoa Joe not heavyweight champ, Any former WWE talent, stupid chants of TNA and this is awesome, too many commercials, their fans on YouTube.
That's all I can think of right now.

Theo Dious 05-11-2007 03:18 PM

Why you hating on the 6-sided ring? I actually find that a good thing. And Samoa Joe not being champ isn't a bad thing. The YouTube fans... well, that's not their fault that they're idiots, but them catering to fans in that way is good.
</>
</>
</>
</>
</>
</>
The rest of it blows though.
</>
</>
</>
</>

And I think the saddest thing about TNA is them virtually bribing crowds to administer heat in the desired directions.

chrisat928 05-11-2007 03:26 PM

I'm not bashing the the six sided ring because they have it, I love it too, but it's too damn small. Especially when they cram six or more guys in it.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2007 05:36 PM

Yeah, this is what I expected. "Basham & Damaja" is much smoother off the tongue than "Doug Basham & Damaja". I personally like the "Damaja" name. If/when they split up into singles competition (and TNA will likely do a better job than WWE did), I hope they have Basham bring back his "Doug" name. "Basham" by itself just sounds like a bad pun.

I also like TNA's six-sided ring. Well, don't so much like it as don't dislike it. I don't see what the big problem is. I think you'd find the surface area of the ring is the same as their four-sided one. I do think they should make it slightly bigger, though.

While I can understand your complaint, in defence of TNA, Roode vs. Jarrett may not be the final leg of this program. Eric Young should still be a slave to Roode at present, and Jarrett should be competing to free him. After Jarrett wins at Sacrifice, Young can challenge Roode at Slammiversary.

I'm not sure if that's how they are booking the program, but I think it would be an acceptable away around your concerns.

chrisat928 05-11-2007 05:49 PM

I found the measurements for TNAs ring.
Post to adjacent Post: 16' 10"
Rail to adjacent Rail: 15' 7"
Rope to adjacent Rope: 12' 1"
Sides 9'

The WWE ring is:
20' by 20'.
I'm not good at this math, so can some one else figure out the surface area to determine which is bigger?

Kane Knight 05-11-2007 05:58 PM

Yes.

But I won't, because I hate math.

Stickman 05-11-2007 06:27 PM

6 Sides of Crap.

Xero 05-11-2007 06:28 PM

If I'm right, and I may be wrong...

TNA Ring's Area: 374.12
WWE Ring's Area: 400

So TNA's ring is close to WWE's but not quite.

Though I rounded TNA's ropes to 12, so it's closer to 375.

Fuck, just realized I used rope to rope. It's much lower in that case, probably closer to 350.

Now I'm coming out to 210...

Stickman 05-11-2007 06:41 PM

I remember disliking WCW because the ring was so small compared to WWF.

The dimensions of the TNA ring is not the problem. The problem is the angles that the wrestlers must move at to hit turnbuckles or ropes. You can constantly see them change their direction when whipped to the ropes. Obvoiusly they do in 4 sides too, but it's much more blatant and terrible with 6.

Xero 05-11-2007 06:53 PM

That's the biggest problem with the six sided ring, they're always adjusting because they're used to four sided rings. It takes them much longer to unlearn/put aside their initial training in a four sided ring to adjust to the six sided ring. The veterans almost always look awkward.

Arnold HamNegger 05-11-2007 07:43 PM

I could have sworn she fucked up and said "Damager." Then I swore when I realized that I was watching TNA again.
