The McMahon Today Show interview..

I dunno if this has been discussed but I just watched it on WWE.com out of curiousity.. Kinda late in the interview, they start discussing wrestler who've died at a young age.. They start showing pictures of said wrestlers, with the death year, and cause of death, etc.. Anyway, they show Owen Hart and put the cause of death as "heart attack"..

:wtf:

You would think their reserchers would do a better job than that..

Also, Vince said that since they've been in buissness, five wrestlers who were under contract have died.. Owen Hart, Pillman, Benoit, Eddie, who was the other one??

DarKCentaur 06-28-2007 12:22 PM

Was Crash Holly still employed when he died?

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 12:23 PM

British Bulldog??

Aww, someone still trusts the media to do their jobs. That's just precious.

Theo Dious 06-28-2007 12:24 PM

I'm pretty sure neither of those were still with WWE when they died (wasn't Crash actually working as a bouncer somewhere?)

Theo Dious 06-28-2007 12:25 PM

Maybe he's counting the Undertaker? *runs and hides*

Unless he went into cardiac arrest during the fall, I'd say no..

Bossman was a WWE regular and appeared almost every year in WWE till his death, though I don't know if he was under contract at the time.

Crash wasn't under contract, and I believe he was working for TNA at the time under the name Mighty Mikey.

May have been Russ Haas...he had a developmental contract, but don't know if he was the one, or if Vince was just giving a rounded number.

Theo Dious 06-28-2007 01:52 PM

Or... he was counting himself. :shifty:

Pardeep 619 06-28-2007 02:01 PM

Only other person that springs to mind is Andre as I don't think they technically released him and he did die of heart failure

Theo Dious 06-28-2007 02:03 PM

Yeah, Andre might still have been with the company.

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 02:03 PM

Andre died in like '96..

No way he was still under contract..

Goulet 06-28-2007 02:04 PM

Andre died in '93

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 02:05 PM

Did he even wrestle after he started acting??

Savio 06-28-2007 02:08 PM

Andre died in 04

Pardeep 619 06-28-2007 02:08 PM

I remember Andre was still apearing at shows from time to time in late 1991 even though he didn't wrestle, and died I think in January 1993 (?) I think Freddie Blassie mentioned in his book (something along the lines of) that Vince didn't want to release the guy because 'everyone would miss the big fuck'.

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 02:08 PM

Alittle research turned up that his last TV appearance was "a brief interview on WCW's Clash of the Champions 20" special that aired on TBS on Sept 2, 1992.. No way MacMahon let a contracted wrestler appear on a WCW event..

It might be Freddie Blassie because he was doing alot of on air shit around the time of his death.. Promoting his book and whatnot..

Anybody Thrilla 06-28-2007 02:12 PM

Wasn't Mr. Perfect under contract when he died?

Xero 06-28-2007 02:13 PM

Pretty sure Perfect had been released. Wasn't he released because of the Plane Ride from Hell?

Xero 06-28-2007 02:14 PM

Also, Crash Holly was out of WWE for a while when he died. He even appeared on TNA a few times.

Yes, yes he was.

Savio 06-28-2007 02:15 PM

I cant find this interviw on wwe.com

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 02:18 PM

Yeah, I just went back to watch it again it's not up.. The One seems to think they said Davey Boy Smith not Owen died of a heart attack but I'm pretty sure it was Owen..

Xero 06-28-2007 02:20 PM

I just checked (I tivoed it). They had Owen's picture but Bulldog's name up. They had the right information, wrong picture.

Kris P Lettus 06-28-2007 02:22 PM

Since he was in OVW at the time (I believe), that does put him under WWE Corporation payroll, right?

It was Owen Hart, saw it with my own two eyes and commented on it in the stickied Benoit death thread right when it happened.

No, not really. A lot of people in OVW are on the WWE payroll, but some of them are there at their own free will.

However Russ was a WWE employee at the time as him and Charlie signed at the same time.
