Help me set up my HDTV please :(
Ok, Got my HDTV just went to set it up, plugged everything in and stuff.
Very dodgy picture... I've read both the 360 manual and the TV manual but its a load of codswallop Here's how it's plugged in. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00525.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00526.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00528.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00529.jpg and here's the cables which I have but don't know what to do with them. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00531.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/DSC00532.jpg |

That may help. I honestly don't know much about setting up TVs, but if the picture is a bit dodgy, then it may be down to tuning rather than the setup. But I honestly dont know, any wires loose? Tried unplugging each one and watching the effect to see where the problem is? |
I'll try it now, cheers
|
Theres a switch on the TV plug near it's input on the 360, have you got that set to HD? Also, make sure all the component cables are in the right sockets, they're colour coded.
|
In addition to the switch doesn't the 360 also have a menu for modifying HD settings? Not 100% sure...
Also, is it hooked up to cable? If so, how's that picture? |

I've got a cheap HD TV, but the picture is great when you have an HD signal. Not so great on regular cable. |
I meant to include with that that my signal was great out of the box, simply flipping the switch and with "plug and play" sort of things...
|
It's HD Ready does that make a difference?
the holes are red white and yellow, I've put the normal ones on and it looks much better, but still not HD. Amazing quality though. Yes i did turn the switch to HD and it make it dodgy, and yes when I tried to change the settings in the display it said I couldn't because The switch was set to TV. I can't see shit when it's to HD so... It's working now anyway and It's 100% better than my old tele so thats the main thing :D. |

Red White and Yellow are stereo audio (R&W) and video (yellow). You want 5 spots, Red Blue and Green for video, and red and white for audio. |
I only got 3 on tele though, its hd ready...
|
at first i thought u had spiderman sheets, but i swear i saw a ninja turtle/lizard in there.
|
Looks like Green Goblin...

Hmmm, maybe you havn't got a component input on the TV. What brand is the TV? |

I just looked up. He's hooked 'em up through regular video, alright. You can even see the S-Video jack. I see a DVI jack, but no HDMI or component video. |
My bed sheets aren't in the picture lol.
Yeah It's got dvi for plugging to HD computers. It's phillips so... |
Give us a model.
|
|
Yeah, you do not have component video, so you can't use compenet video. You can use regular video.
|
Ok, I don't get it? Can I have my 360 in HD or no?
|
You're gonna need one of these.
http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/sear...mponent+to+DVI God that TV sucks. Does anything really use DVI as the MAIN input? No HDMI, VGA, Component. |

I kinda rushed into it thinking that any one would work,
Cheers KK you've been a big help :D and thanks HH for the link :D Does it matter that its from the US and I live in UK? |
You could also get the MS VGA Adapter and put a VGA->DVI adapter on that, that could work as well. But I'd recommend getting the component converter so you can use other things besides your 360 in HD.
|
Well, it has scart, which isn't in the US. And it's from a .uk site.

Hell, I bought the cheapest 42" on the market at the time and I get 2 SCART, 1 Component, 1 S-Video, 1 DVI-I, 1 VGA, 2 HDMI and 1 RF. |
Oh yeah, and component doesn't have issue with regions so yeah, it's cool to get a US one.

I never said it did. :?: |
Ok the thing has come, I just plugged it in (not sure if I got it in right), Saw those little buttons on it and looked at the instructions, then I changedt the switches so only 480i, 480p and 720p were on, I plugged everything in set the switch on 360 to HD, No picture...

Also, not to be an ass, but tech support for HDTVs often includes setup. Can you call them, and see if they know a little bit more? |
What do you mean by current setup?
The back of my tele or the settings on the tele? |
How it's hooked up currently.
And have you tried tech support? |
No your my tech support because you know your way around the supermarket ;)
|
How come the plug is European?
|
Its exactly the same as the other pics but its got the thing in DVI port and all the hd cables and the 2 standard ones in.
Its random |
Ok, the normal setup for the tv is av and the screen and sound comes up for it...
Now with the DVI in, the Picture comes up on the HD channel but the sound is sticking to AV... help from kk needed :) ty |
DVI is only a video connection, no audio goes through there. Looking at the pics above, fuck knows where your audio cables are supposed to go....
|
Actually, I think I just found it. See that 3.5mm audio jack below the s-video? (The one that looks like a headphone socket...), that will probably be the DVI-I channels audio. You'll need this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5-mm-Stereo-...QQcmdZViewItem Obviously DOUBLE CHECK FIRST as I can't even see what it says or what the logo above that port is. |
it says dvi-something :)
Hollywood Hasney you are awesome |
