so when did the spot monkey get over so much?
Seriously, im reading that Jeff hardy is SUPER over from my friend who was a hardy mark since he showed up in WWE and thought it was just him on his delisional rant about how wwe is worth watching again....come to find out this is actually true? I know Jeff was always over but with that acting ablity of his, which i HEAR hasnt changed, i never saw him super over....is this the "high" leading the blind?

Hardy doesn't jump off of a 20 foot lader every week, or does a swanton to the outside 14 times in a single match. He has gotten on the mic a few times and he's alright. Watch the show, and then talk to your friend. |
He's not any more over than he use to be, the difference is that everyone around him sucks so much more than the people who use to be around him. He's not more popular, everyone else is less popular.
|
I would have to argue against that and say that's not a fair statement.
Lots of guys around Hardy have been built as stars and don't get nearly the level of pops that he does (see: John Cena). To say that Cena has better mic skills or even wrestling skills than Jeff Hardy would be a stretch, i.e., his suckiness isn't what's putting Hardy over. Jeff is over because he's different from the usual mold of wrestlers we see these days: trunks, boots, clean cut hair. He's unique and something different on the WWE RAW brand that isn't lame as fuck (Umaga, the Highlanders, Carlito), plus he's generally a very entertaining performer, albeit he just generally does the same spots over and over again. Don't worry though. WWE will never let anything come of it. |

Darkpower is right to fix that.

He get's the obligatory Attitude era pop. He has all the same wrestling moves, the same look, and the same music as he used to have so I'd say he's pretty much a good reminder to fans of better times.
So why doesn't Matt Hardy get the same attitude-era pop? Because he got more confident on the mic, changed his attire, changed his music, and especially during the Mattitude phase he brought out alot of charisma we didn't think we'd see from a Hardy. Both men get big pops from the crowd, but I think Matt earns his alot more. |

Plus, who cares what show he's on when he sucks? |
He's consistently performing to a level that makes him shine on the card and his work rate is probably it's best since the Hardy's split originally.
He's got acceptable mic skills right now, compared to others. Plus as has already been said, other people just aren't as over as him, it's not that he's more over, he's always remained constant thus making him seem more over in contrast. I would still like to see him in a main event feud |

Still, I'd rather have Jeff pushed than Bobby Lashley.

What it sums up is that the new era sucks.
And instead of new wrestlers actually getting shots, the old guard is still up there. |
Jeff is so much better than he was in TNA that it boggles the mind. And he looked like a huge star in the opening segment of Raw this week. Maybe it's people's desire to see something that's fresh and exciting for a change.
|
And nothing says fresh like a guy doing the same thing he was 7 years ago.
|
As opposed to a guy in Shawn Michaels doing the same thing he was 11 years ago, yes.
Jeff is actually much better wrestler now than he's ever been before, probably the typical "having to settle his style down after being the bump machine in his younger years" syndrome. Plus, keep in mind, say what you will about seven years, but half of that time the masses, who are the ones that are getting behind him now, saw nothing of him because he was in TNA or making hand puppets in Carolina or whatever, so he's not a burned out guy in their eyes yet. |
Shawn Michaels is pretty significantly different. Hardy is not.

I think it's the fact that Hardy has never hit the big time that drives the fans to not get sick of him and keep popping him Whether or not he deserves that push is another argument, but I think it's the fact that hes beloved by fans who've wanted to see him reach the top for some time and he's always kept on the doorstep. I don't think Jeff Hardy is great. I don't think hes awful though. I like him as a performer, always have, despite his lack of mic skills and shaky ring skills. Yea, hes gotten over for being a spot monkey, but he's gotten over and stayed there. I think he should get a crack at the main event. I don't think hes championship material, at least not for the long run. But I wouldn't mind seeing the guy get a title fued and one or two PPV headlines. Even a dusty finish or a short transitional reign would be fine with me. But who would they do it with? A fued with Orton would be boring. Orton's not a big enough star or talented enough to offset Jeff's shortcomings. I think a heel Shawn Michaels (veteran, Jeff was once compared to him) or Edge (with all their history and Edge's brilliance) would be an excellent program to test the waters with Jeff. |

Hardy's getting a decent pop, but it's nothing compared to the pops of just five years ago. These days, a lot of people get pretty good pops, which seem larger for the overall lackluster response. Even hot crowds are nothing compared to the coldest of Attitude Era ones. But what's there to mark out for? God, in those days, even Rikishi seemed worth marking out for because everything was so electric by default. Now wrestling's almost like a chore. |
He's more than qualified to be champion in ECW. Even Smackdown, with it's Bshow roster and lackluster main event scene would be lucky to have him.
Don't they want to move Rey to raw? I say trade Jeff for Rey and fued him with Edge. |
I used to like Jeff Hardy, then I hated him, but since returning I've liked him again. When he's motivated, he can be pretty entertaining. He works best with guys like Angle, Shelton, Benoit, HHH, and Jericho.
If Jeff Hardy became a little bit more serious with his in ring style and look, he could be a not horrible world champ, should WWE decide to give him the belt. He doesn't need a complete makeover... he just needs to not wear regular clothes. Personally, I'd prefer him to stay in the IC picture. I'd like a nice feud where he's chasing the title, and almost wins it, but doesn't. He can be a great challenger. If HHH is a heel in one of the next 76 times he has the belt, I wouldn't mind him feuding with Hardy. |
The only problem is Jeff as a champion will end poorly.
It's not to say he can't wrestle. It's not to say he sucks. Though I'll say both of those right now, just to piss of Shadow. Jeff Hardy is unreliable. You don't want someone like that as champion. Hardy should Never...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEver touch a championship higher than IC/US. But since there IS no ECW championship, let him hold that strap. :Shifty: |
After Jeff wins the belt, where do you go from there? Do you Rey it up and have him job out to everyone including Shelton's Mama?
|
I doubt we'll see Hardy winning the title at all. Oh noes, can u imagine Vince he be panicking about the IC title on Jeff too... no wait... he forgot about that title a long time ago, hmmmmm.
I just think it's gonna be Orton v Michaels no matter what and Jeff / Kennedy will slip into an IC title feud. Which won't be that bad at all I guess. |
is it bad that i haven't watched wrestling in a couple of years, yet after reading this thread title i knew exactly who you were talking about =\
|
Jeff Hardy came into my work the other week,he's a really nice guy.
|
almost everyone who's had contact with Jeff seems to think he's pretty cool. I'm pretty sure that's just the contact high.

Pepsi Man is even more retarded for leeching off it and going further down the "Um, what the fuck is the point of that?" avenue. But I agree, for the most. Jeff Hardy isn't really getting massive pops. He's just getting pops. They're the same as he and Matt have always been getting since they jumped off ladders and ran around with a hot chick. |
'Noid, that you of all people would go on about this is just hilariously ironic.
...Well, not really ironic, because I expect it from you, but.... |

No one will understand what i'm about to say or take me seriously, but here it go.
The thing about Jeff Hardy is, i dont wanna see him be champion. I liked Jeff Hardy so much more when he was facing Biker Booger Big Red Undertaker and lost. If he would have won the title, i dont think i would have liked him as much, but the match itself where he was struggling to win it against someone who was obviously booked to be better and the fact that Taker put him over as much as he did in that match, that made me like Jeff Hardy a ton. It would not have been the same if he won that match. I wouldnt have remembered that as much. That part where he was about to get powerbombed and he grabbed the chair and hit Taker with it before getting slammed on his neck, that was amazing. Even then i knew he wasnt gunna win, but just the fact that he was surviving was awsome. Back when Wrestlemania 2000 came out on the N64, me and my buddies coined the phrase " Jeff Hardy dont die ! " I swear J.R said that shit a couple weeks ago. Totally stealing it from us, but o well. |
