Alien.

I think they need to make another alien movie thats more like the first one. The sequel is great as far as action/horror movies go, but as a straight up horror movie goes, it's not even in the same league as the first.

My fav horror movie of all time.

Aliens

I gotta say, I liked Alien a lot better than Aliens. For one, the dialogue was a lot more naturalistic and less action-movie-quotey. Second, the Alien itself was a hell of a lot scarier because you didn't know anything about it or what it could do. The ones in the sequel were just over-sized bugs.

Anyway, apart from Alien (which is my favorite), Spielberg made two unbelievably good extra-terrestrial movies (Close Encounters and E.T.). The build-up in Signs is amazing, but the ending is stupid. And the different remakes of War of the Worlds (the Spielberg one and Independence Day) are pretty fun, depending on what mood you're in.

Fignuts 01-03-2008 02:21 AM

Yeah, they completely lost the atmosphere the first one had in the follow ups.

I have never been more tense watching a movie, than when ripleys running through the ship during the final countdown.

KPax is definitely up there.

.44 Magdalene 01-03-2008 12:01 PM

And ID4. I think a rather hefty portion of the Transformers movie was ripped from ID4.

What the Hell was Cocoon about?

Mr Regal 01-03-2008 01:39 PM

Close encounters is pretty great.

Mr Regal 01-03-2008 01:41 PM

Oh Yeah cocoon.

That was when big Brian D had his alien buddies in cocoons in the old folks swimming pool. The old bastards started swimming in the pool and stealing the life force of the aliens and making themselves feel young again.

It had steve guttenberg in it.....result.

Jura 01-03-2008 01:57 PM

Guyver. I don't know.

D Mac 01-03-2008 03:01 PM

How about the original Predator? He is basically an alien. No not Arnold.

ron the dial 01-03-2008 03:23 PM

If we're considering Rocky Horror an alien flick...

Kane Knight 01-03-2008 05:37 PM

The Last Starfighter is a fun one. I mean, the CG animation is dated, but it's got some pretty great lines in it. And Robert Preston's definitely an alien.

Jeritron 01-03-2008 05:39 PM

Alien
Aliens

Alien
Predator

Totally agree with Fignuts as far as the Alien sequels go, totally lost the atmosphere, especially in Aliens where there were so many of them, in the original you barely saw the thing until right at the end and that was what made it so suspensful, the unknown etc.

I love that film :) , been so long since I've seen it

XL 01-04-2008 07:58 PM

I really liked Signs (regardless of the daft ending) as it gave a much smaller perspective to 'alien invasion' films compared to films such as Independence Day, War Of The Worlds, etc.

Kalyx triaD 01-04-2008 08:55 PM

Signs was awesome. I wouldn't call it an alien movie per se.
