Am I being to hard on Rey?
It is a well known fact that I hate the little bastard, but am I too hard on him. I think is ring work is awful. He doesn't know how to sell. He matches are just him flying around the ring. I can never tell who is going for move (be it Rey or his opponet) until afterwards and one of them sells the move. And WWE sells him like the is the greatest cruiser ever, he isn't even the best luchador.

No

You maybe right, but he does have positives also. He's an amazing athlete and can pull off an entertaining match every now and then.
|
No, I'm not being to hard on Rey? He is as awful as I think he is?
|
So he shouldn't be heavyweight champion.

What was your honest opinion of Rey before he won the WHT?
Personally, I like Rey, but I think he was a hell of a lot better when he was skinnier. Now he's bulked up a little, and it looks a bit weird. I've not been a fan of wrestling for long (I started watching in 2002) so when I started, I think he just started getting a propper push. Out of all the wrestlers in the WWE at the time, (as someone who knew jack shit about wrestling) I liked Rey because he was this tiny guy fighting these monsters, and looking pretty good doing it. As a complete package, he certainly isn't grade A, but he is good at what he does. He has a nice finisher, he seems like a nice bloke, and I think watching him against Edge, for the time being is a decent enough place for him. |
Since coming to WWE he's been REALLY terrible. In WCW and before that he was great, but I suppose it's a mix of WWE's style and his high flying finally catching up with him in the knee department. He's a shell of his former self and gets the proper reaction from crowds like he got at ONS and at the Garden.

Rey at 50% is still better most of these guys at 100%.

I disagree rob.

Too bad Rey is at 2%. |
My problem with Rey is they really killed him. I mean an underdog former world champ? It's hard to be the underdog once you've ben the top dog. Good thing he's a midget.
|
Can't stand him.
|
Shame his knees have gone to shit.
|
I haven't been able to appreciate Rey since 10 years ago in WCDub when they unmasked him and made him wear those fuckin toddler sized dungarees.

Hell, Nacho Libre is better than Rey...http://www.funtalking.com/images/nacho_jack2.jpg

My problem with Rey stems from the whole premise of Wrestling as "entertainment" rather than "sport".
Every week we are asked to accept (and expect) as normal, many ludicrous, fanciful and down-right unbelievable moments under this form of entertainment. Because of the weekly flood of unblievable things I have to accept, I am now desensitised to the "magic" of wrestling to the point where I simply cannot accept the fact that someone the size of Rey can beat the likes of Batista, Undertaker etc and be World Heavyweight Champion. It is for this very reason that everytime he is on my screen, I switch channels. I can only accept so much. |

Anyways, no, you're not being too hard on Rey. He was awesome in his prime, and now he's a shadow of his former self. If he could work the mic better then I'd say cut the guy a break. |
Alot of interesting answers, he's a sort of polarizing figure at this point.
Really, I still look forward to his matches. Optimism, I guess. He's older, and worn-down, and watered-down due to the limitation on cruiserweights, and can't cut a convincing promo to save his life. But he still moves better than most of the roster, and he makes an effort which is more than most men in the WWE make. And if you can't tell what's going on in his matches, then you must be partly incompetent. Even after all the watering down he fits nicely into the gray area between the main event and the mid card. I still miss Juvi and Psychosis. |
The WWE pushes him too hard and in the wrong direction, but looking at the man for who he is, and not the stigma surrounding him, I would have to answer "yes" to your question, BDC.
You're entitled to not like the guy, but I think you're being too hard on him in that you don't seem to see any of his redeeming features. I also believe that you would not be asking this question if you didn't think there were possibly some, anyway. |
I wonder what Rey Mysterio would think about BDC.

It's kind of like dropping an Indy racer into the middle of the desert. Sure, it's fast as fuck, but it's going nowhere in the sand, and you'll probably be wishing you had something designed to handle sand. A Tank, an APC, something that, yes, would be slower, but could handle the terrain. Put it another way, the great thinker Mark Twain once said "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read good books." |

Looking back, I think I really started hating Rey back in WCW when he used to wrestle with those god-awful devil horns on his head

You should already know about my argument about Rey, because I made a LONG post about that whole title reign bullshit (you know, how they did whatever they could to fuck up his reign and that was the one time we blamed the title holder instead of the WWE for doing that instead of the vice versa as we usually do. Guess what, we STILL blame Rey instead of the WWE for that shit reign, which is REALLY sad).
He's a huge draw, he gets asses in seats, he REALLY helps SmackDown out by being at that main event spot (SD does need another top face other than Batista). He has bricked some, I will say that. However, the small feud with Edge was alright. Maybe, since SmackDown and ECW have that "mutual agreement", he could be able to win the ECW title at somewhere like NWO or wrestlemania and keep it for a while. Would fit him nicely seeing as how he could be considered an ECW original, it could get the ECW title some cred, and he could still wrestle on SmackDown and get additional exposure. Since he's a good draw, that could be a REAL good thing for ECW. |

That's like if WWE resigns Kurt Angle and claiming he's a TNA Original. |

What's the difference? The term "Original" is misguided for most on the list to begin with, but is there any distinction between the big list and Rey besides the fact that the best of his career was in WCW and not ECW?
|
I think Rey puts on entertaining matches, but I haven't liked him that much of late anyways too. He reminds me too much of Cena in that his biggest fanbase is little kids. And that fact that he hardly ever jobs. Since his return in August, I believe the Royal Rumble match was his first pinfall loss. Not even MVP could beat him cleanly at Armageddon. It's just not that believable that Rey can beat pretty much everyone.
