Classic announcer lines that made moments...

Name some announcer lines that made or made a moment better/more epic.

WrestleMania 14, Austin/Michaels, JR: "HE GOT IT! THE STUNNER! MIKE TYSON IN! AUSTIN IS THE CHAMPION! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! THE AUSTIN ERA HAS BEGUN!"

Seriously, that is JR at his best as far as being a hype man goes.

CSL 02-29-2008 09:11 PM

JR - Hell in a Cell KOTR 98
JR - The 'Old Stone Cold' returns to save some WWE guys from the Alliance. JR's commentary combined with the crowd going apeshit was fantastic

Bobby Heenan after Shawn Michaels turned on Marty Jannetty.

NeanderCarl 02-29-2008 11:52 PM

"I knew he was gonna do that! I knew he was gonna do that! He don't need Jannetty!"

U-Warrior 03-01-2008 01:32 AM

"Look at that, he jumped through the window. What a coward!"

FourFifty 03-01-2008 02:51 AM

Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing. During the HBK concussion deal NOTHING was said, and it made the moment.

94 SVT Cobra 03-01-2008 03:47 AM

brock lesnar, when he missed the shooting star press at wrestlemania...

Taz...OH MY GOD!

NeanderCarl 03-01-2008 03:53 AM

"Goodnight America, Goldberg's the champ."

NeanderCarl 03-01-2008 03:54 AM

Every single line uttered by Bobby Heenan during the 1992 Royal Rumble match. Monsoon played his role perfectly too.

BigDaddyCool 03-01-2008 09:27 AM

Rellik is killer spelled backwards!

D Mac 03-01-2008 11:18 AM

Tony Schivonte after Hogan turned NWO.

"Hulk Hogan you can go to hell."

The MAC 03-01-2008 11:31 AM

hhh on commentary " I'm 'bi' a lot of things but bi-lingual isnt one of them"

Heenan: What did you say? You talking to me?
Monsoon: Yes!
Heenan: What did you say?
Monsoon: No one who has ever drawn numbers one through five has been there at the end!
Heenan: I told you to shut up!

Best Rumble ever, and at least half of it was due to the commentary team.

JH 03-01-2008 01:16 PM

heenan & monsoon = greatest announce team ever

thedamndest 03-01-2008 02:37 PM

Vince McMahon on commentary, after so much as a body slam: ONE, TWO AND HE GOT HIM...no, no, I thought for sure he had him there...

Big Vic 03-01-2008 05:27 PM

Bill Demott had some Classic lines. But none made any moments.

Mr. JL 03-01-2008 05:29 PM

Yeah, it was pretty funny when he'd make fun of Josh.

Big Vic 03-01-2008 05:36 PM

Josh: What do you think Cena's FU stands for?

Bill: Free Yukon

Lock Jaw 03-01-2008 06:10 PM

"I have lost my objectivity!"

Loose Cannon 03-01-2008 06:55 PM

I always love Tony's line at Fall Brawl 97 when Hennig turned. "What is he doing...They've swerved us" Seems bland just reading it, but it was a great call.

Heenan and Monsson at Mania 8 when Warrior returned was a classic

The whole WCW announce crew in I think 97 when Luger won the Title from Hogan on Nitro.

sorry I can't remember the exact lines

Johnny Vegas 03-01-2008 07:36 PM

LUGER WON THE TITLE! LUGER WON THE TITLE! LEX LUGER WON THE TITLE!WrestleMania X-7: (JR) OH, AUSTIN GOT THE STUNNER..MY GOD THE STUNNER! KingofOldSchool 03-01-2008 09:09 PM

Mike Tenay: "Just who is the leader of the nWo?"
Bobby Heenan: "I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tony Danza comes out."

The Naitch 03-01-2008 10:28 PM

Halbowsky 03-02-2008 02:09 AM

Lawler: "It's...it's the millennium, JR! 10! 9! Ahh! 6! 5! 4! We're counting down! 3! 2! 1! Wha? What? What?"

Y2J: "Welcome to RAW is JERICHO!"

Sorry, I had to add Jericho's line in there. One of the very few times I cried while watching wrestling. I got so caught up in the moment.

Lock Jaw 03-02-2008 02:23 AM

lol crying when watching wrestling.

Mr. JL 03-02-2008 04:02 AM

lol

Mr. JL 03-02-2008 04:03 AM

I couyld possibly understand crying if there was a sad segment or a something that was welll done. But crying during a wrestler's debut is pretty LMFAO

TerranRich 03-02-2008 12:46 PM

Heenan poking fun at Tito Santana was always classic. :D

The MAC 03-02-2008 12:52 PM

Bobby Heenan was fucking great.

Dammit! I also wish the WWE would get rid of Jonathan Coachman (in the commentary role, I mean), and bring back Bill DeMott. The guy may not have been the best trainer, and he may not have really caught on in the ring, but fuck if he wasn't a great colour commentator. His DeMott's Turning Point things on Velocity used to be pretty awesome.

Josh Mathews is also a great commentator. When Hacksaw had the mic on Heat, he immediately stopped his thought, and said "Whoa, Hacksaw's about to say something!" and let the man speak. Mike Tenay and Don West should be taking notes.

I miss it when Jerry Lawler used to be an asshole that would root for the heels. I know Lawler is popular, but that's the kind of shit that got him there in the first place. No reason to have him act like a good guy now.

It would often feel like King was going for the heel sometimes, specifically because JR was going for the face. King also understood why the bad guys were cheating their asses off, while JR was like your average fan, wanting to see his favourites win, without having the experience of having walked through the fire.

And then, even though they had their completely different views, if JR was punked out by Tazz, or something, King would stand up for him, and their friendship really stemmed from their rivalry. It was great when JR and King were two entirely different personalities: One honest and righteous, and the other sleazy and slimy. Now they are almost interchangeable.

Fuck, these great commentary memories are making me hate the current WWE.

Mr. Nerfect 03-02-2008 08:06 PM

The WWE needs to put its commentators on a moral scale. Kind of like political leanings. You have your far left-wing, but you also have your Democrats that lean a little more towards the right. There are extremely conservative Republicans, but you also have your left-leaning more tolerable ones (sorry).

Commentary should be the same. Jim Ross should be as face as a commentator can get. To the point where he is so nice, he is even good to the heels, and admits their strength. Joey Styles seems like a far face character, in my opinion, too. More analytical and less emotional than JR, though. Michael Cole and Todd Grisham are your smarmy, arrogant play-by-play guys.

Cole does not play the good guy sympathizer well. His bias is too strong, and it's awkward. He should be more of a little shit who kisses his boss' ass. He should stop acting like he's marking out as much as he does, and take a more calm, journalistic approach to his commentary. He can talk about The Undertaker's success at WrestleMania in journalistic awe, and statistically quote Batista as one of the greatest World Heavyweight Champions of all-time.

Todd Grisham is a little shit, and is actually entertaining while he's doing it. Grish is actually a funny guy, and would be great as a heel colour commentator, who just sits on the commentary team because he's hosted Soccer broadcasts before. Grish as the arrogant golden child commentator would be pretty fucking good, in my opinion. Josh Mathews should be the work horse of the team, with Grisham making things easier with his humor.

Lawler should be an asshole, Tazz should be more based on how good someone is in the ring than their storyline positioning, and Jonathan Coachman should not get along with Cole, and talk about how he's a better play-by-play guy than Cole, and he never even calls a move. Of course, Coach should also go back to being an on-screen character, and Bill DeMott should be rehired for commentary.
