Why does the WWE have so many women?
 

I was counting how many people were on all the brands, and I counted almost just as many females compared to actual wrestlers. To my knowledge the women's title is exclusively on RAW, so what do they do with the other forty "divas" scattered throughout all the brands?

Dunno, they're all shit actors/wrestlers imo apart from maybe one or two.

Useless trinkets to excite fans who have recently reached puberty.

They figure that more tits and ass equals more ratings. They hit the maximum years ago. At this point it's like fitting 1000 clowns into a matchbox car.

I never will understand TPWW or maybe I should say the smark fan's dislike for the WWE Divas. I don't mean to sound like a dick but, are you guys gay? If you are then fine but seriously why WOULDNT you want to see those hot ass girls on TV? They are the hottest women on television and they make watching wrestling a lot less homo.

When they wrestle, thats fine. (If they CAN wrestle). When they waste time with "dancing" contests or whatever, its time better spent for ya know, wrestling.

I wouldn't mind if they had the occasional swimsuit contest or if the ones who can't wrestle were used in other non-wrestling roles, like valets. But the Diva brand is one of their cornerstones, and the majority of the ones they hire can't wrestle - some not even knowing what the business is about, and the ones who can wrestle get pushed to the side for eyecandy.

What it comes down to is that they've pushed untalented, and in some cases flat-out terrible divas and have done so many unsexy-sex-filled angles to the point where if I never saw another woman on WWE TV again I wouldn't be sad.

Give me the Miss Elizabeths, the Micky Jameses, the Trish Stratuses and the Molly Hollys and leave the Marias, Ashleys and Candices either as valets, afterthoughts or on the unemployment line.

Nothing is wrong with hot girls on my tv. When that's what I'm in the mood to watch.

Or bad wrestling or matches with people you don't care about like Holly and Rhodes/Cade Murdoch. At least with Cryme Time coming back and having matches with them makes them bearable to watch.

I find it unfortunate that they have hired so many, like I wish Mickie was never hired(or existed). Divas, are part of the downfall of pro televised wrestling.

A. One is enough, two is great, three is a crowd. Two dozen is pushing it.
B. They take up space by having shitty shitty shitty matches. The Nitro Girls were a remarkably good idea in retrospect, cut to them for about ten seconds ever couple of segments then get back to the action. They shouldn't take up ten minutes of time each match.
C. There are almost no female valets/managers anymore. So, it's not even refreshing in that way. They can't decide to bill them as proformers or athletes.

If I may, I would like to compair the divas to fireworks...

I find fireworks very pretty and amazing to watch, but after 5-10 minutes, I'm a bit bored of it. When it comes to the divas, they are sexy and watching someone like Maria come to the ring isn't bad, but if that's all I'm getting...well I do have Cinemax and the internet.

If you're going to place women in wrestling, well lets hope they can wrestle or add something decent to the show. Trish did, Vicky still can, and Mickie isn't bad herself. People like Maria, Melina, and even Julian Hall can make for decent valets. However, 15-30 minutes dedicated to terrible softcore porn and wrestling matches doesn't add to the show or make me more interested to watch.

I think the women who aren't good in the ring should start working with some wrestlers that need that extra something. There are a few guys on the roster who could use either a mic piece or something extra to add to their character ( Matt Hardy, Shelton, Richards, Cade and Murdock, etc). And if those people want to be placed in a fight...well I never hated an ECW catfight. ^_~

Xero pretty much hit the nail on the head, but I'm going to present my thoughts on the matter, anyway:

1) These girls need to get paid. The Diva Search was, at one stage, $250,000 worth from the WWE. That money could have gone towards doing something like hiring talent worth having around. It just disturbs me that come Spring cleaning, Johnny Jeter will probably have to get a new job, while Kelly Kelly cashes in paychecks for doing nothing that porn or Google Images doesn't do better.

Fuck, it's even more disturbing when there are hot and talented women out there (like Gail Kim, Molly Holly and Cheerleader Melissa) that can't fit on WWE programming, but there are useless sluts they can find the time for.

2) Watching girls eating ice-cream as if it's "sexy," regardless of how old the girls are, makes me feel like a pervert. I just can't watch the kind of "competitions" the WWE have without feeling dirty and pathetic. If the Divas want to softcore demonstrations, I'd actually be fine and captivated by that, but the way things are, the WWE doesn't know how to present women as sexy.

3) They aren't the sexiest women on television. They are some of the sexiest women that weren't sexy enough for television.

If the WWE wants to hire the occasional hot chick to be a valet, I'm all for it. Ashley was great for helping London & Kendrick get over with the crowd. Matt Hardy could use a Maria at his side. I don't see the purpose in having Lena Yada under contract, though, for example. Cut her, keep the money. She doesn't even serve a "hot" purpose.

I also think that it makes no sense they are presented as female role models. I don't mind the occasional slutty girl making a case for being slutty, but I absolutely loathe the WWE's stance of "getting naked = good female behaviour." Just once it would be nice to have a female character who was hot, but didn't use that as her sole purpose for being. Trish Stratus almost overcame it. Well, she pretty much did.

Just once, I'd like to see a character like Victoria or Melina act slutty, and be presented as a faulty person for it.

Unrelated note: The WWE also has an awful taste in women. Why the fuck is Brooke's ass not still on WWE TV?

fuck the WWE Divas. I FUCKING LOVE WOMENS WRESTLING. Love it. I'd put Trish Stratus in my top 20 of ALL TIME. hot chicks + good wrestling = my dream. But WWE doesn't give me that. They give me half the equation. All week long every TV show I see has half naked women. i could turn on anything I want to see it. No prob. Hell with the Interent I could watch them get fucked. When I turn on wrestling I WANT TO SEE WRESTLING. The TNA womens division is fantastic, it is the ONLY REASON I tune into TNA each week. It's fantastic.

Am I gay for hating the Divas? Nah, I'm a wrestling fan for hating them.
