Diamond Dallas Page Appreciation Thread

Discuss why DDP was truly "The People's Champion"...

Interesting piece WWE Confidential did on DDP after he retired:

DDP is the shit.

And he's also my friend's father's friend from college. Small world.

Anyway, I always enjoyed his work, as he was a good wrestler with a huge amount of charisma and energy. Obviously wasn't used to his full potential in WWE (or even half his potential), but I enjoyed him a lot in WCW.

DDP :y::y:

*BANG BANG*

Being a hardheaded bastard, first impression are it for me. But DDP is one of the two wrestlers that acually made me like him, after I decided I hated him.

BANG

PapaGeorgio 12-25-2008 10:13 AM

...you never saw it coming.

Innovator 12-25-2008 10:39 AM

I never saw the big deal about DDP

Johnny Vegas 12-25-2008 02:48 PM

DDP was ahead of his time. He was one of those wrestlers that could've been over then and NOW with the gimmick/persona he had. The Diamond Cutter was so innovative that you HAD to consider it dangerous. More dangerous than the Hogan Leg Drop, Jackknife, etc. because it could come out of nowhere. Plus, during '97 he had the coolest ring attire.

You always never saw this foot about to go up your ass. STFU Inno...

I had totally forgotten that show. His role in Ready to Rumble was classic also.

This scared the hell out of me.

Vastardikai 12-26-2008 01:58 AM

My favorite DDP moment was when he dressed up as La Parka to face Randy Savage. Imagine the shock when La Parka hit the Diamond Cutter and pinned him. And of course, the unmasking was hot as hell.

And, for the next couple weeks on Saturday Night, Sonny Ono would look under La Parka's hood to see if it was really him, and La Parka would signal for the Diamond Cutter.

The Optimist 12-26-2008 02:01 AM

I would say that more people need to do that sort of thing, but it would almost cheapen it. That and the whole Los Conquistadores thing were solid gold.

Vastardikai 12-26-2008 02:06 AM

It has to be so unexpected that it gets the crowd into it or so obvious that the crowd is into it.

I find it difficult not to like and respect Page. Here is a guy that learned the trade very late on his life but he picked it up real well. A very charismatic guy that could also do it in the ring.

XL 12-26-2008 03:04 AM

What is Page up to nowadays? A guy like him could do wonders as a manager, trainer or commentator in WWE or TNA - providing he'd be interested.

DDP is currently the creator/trainer of YRG (Yoga for Real Guys/Gals), a motivational speaker, and an aspiring actor. DDP has also published two books (Positively Page: The Diamond Dallas Page Journey & YRG: Yoga for Real Guys) and is currently working on publishing his 3rd book (Living Life At 90% Because 10% Sucks).

DDP is one of the most underrated talents ever.

He is truly one of the hardest performers of his time, and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He's been a great help to me several times while working with different charities.

A bad ass wrestler coming out in black t-shirt and jeans, from my homestate, and a finisher that I could mimic with my friends. Yea, I was a "HUGE" DDP fan.

LoDownM 12-27-2008 09:20 PM

Big DDP fan. I even started making my finisher a "cutter" in Smackdown games. If only he had started 10 years before he did, could been so much bigger than he was/is.
