Isn't the premise virtually identical to The Marine?

Afterlife 01-17-2009 12:00 AM

Wow. He just refuses to act, doesn't he?

I'd say more like die hard 3. I'd say it looks better then the Marine, worth a rent.

Savio 01-17-2009 12:30 AM

What happened to HHH and undertakers movie?

thedamndest 01-17-2009 01:38 AM

They reused the wardrobe from the Marine.

Shadow 01-17-2009 02:03 AM

It's a mindless popcorn flick.

I'll see it.

That's why I saw The Marine.

screech 01-17-2009 03:28 AM

I'll see it, but I won't spend money to do so. I'll wait for the DVD and Netflix it.

thedamndest 01-17-2009 03:29 AM

That's still spending money.

thedamndest 01-17-2009 03:31 AM

Even if you borrow the DVD from a friend or illegally download it or find it in the street there is still the cost to you of having to sit and watch it.

But it's not my money so it's okay.

And no doubt that'll be a hefty price.

Juan 01-17-2009 07:19 AM

I think i'll pass

XL 01-17-2009 08:44 AM

So, instead of a marine we get him as a cop. Wonder how they'll work that into his gimmick?

Fox 01-17-2009 08:49 AM

What's sad is that this movie will get a wide-release and "The Wrestler" didn't.

RP 01-17-2009 08:55 AM

I'd watch it. Its not like its horrible or something. Not every movie wins an Oscar you spoiled fag wrestling fans. He's John Cena. What the fuck are you expecting from this? Do you expect this to be a Robert Dinero in Heat like performance? Thats why no why likes you guys. Cause your dumb fucks that have these huge expectations that are so ridiculous. Its a John Cena action movie. Get a fucking clew.

He doesn't have a gimmick.

That's not necessarily bad. As much as I've never been high on Rourke as a person, good movies are made for fans of movies. Hollow crap with explosions is made for people who don't know why peolpe make movies.

Now that's a gimmick.

Xero 01-17-2009 10:56 AM

I'm getting a raging clue.

He could tase blacks as part of his entrance?

Fox 01-17-2009 06:19 PM

He's already like the police. When he was gone it was like a high school party and Chris Jericho was the cool kid host, and then when Cena showed up all the fun stops and he hands out MIP's.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:35 PM

I love that people try to pass it off with the excuse of "I'll watch it, but I won't spend money on it." or, "It's mindless, it's worth a watch."

Just fuckin admit you want to see it. I'm sure the 5 bucks are inconsequential.

I will not see it, but if I wanted to I'd come out and fuckin come clean with it.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:36 PM

Lets keep in mind that these movies do make money at the box office. Not a ton, but they do make money. If nobody on here will "pay to see it", who is? At least one person in this thread who says they won't pay to see it will be there on opening weekend.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:37 PM

Perhaps they're even planning on it.

thedamndest 01-17-2009 07:39 PM

John Cena, Sr.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:46 PM

Even watching it on TV counts as paying money. It means you're paying money for a format that subjects it's viewers to shit like this instead of good movies, and we still buy it.
Even NOT watching it on HBO, or whatever, is paying for it (if you get the channel). It saddens me.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:47 PM

When we pay taxes, we're supporting John Cena movies. In some round about way I'm sure it could be argued. I propose we stage a modern day Boston Tea Party, dumping crates of The Marine deluxe edition dvds into the Boston Harbor

thedamndest 01-17-2009 07:54 PM

They wouldn't stay in there. The Boston Harbor would give them the Throwback.

I love this post.

Kalyx triaD 01-17-2009 08:05 PM

Now, granted the premise is somewhat better than the Marine and it seems like something that would have been totally 'it' in the mid/late 90's, I think I can live without watching this. WWE Films is... getting better? Who knows.

You pay five bucks? Shit, it's like 7 for a matinee around here now.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 08:11 PM

Give or take. I was taking the "Give it a rent" into account. 5 bucks, 7 bucks, either way it's hardly whats stopping people from seeing it. The bottom line is you either want to see it, or not, and you then comprimise that with what you deem socially acceptable.

Just to be fair, WWE Films was never really that bad to begin with. The Marine was solid, the Condemned was solid, and I can't comment on I Scream M...Errr...Cena Evil, but I hate the genre, so I'm not sure my opinion on that one would be any measure of quality.

I think the biggest problem with WWE Films is the Waterworld effect. I mean, there are quality concerns as well, and Waterworld was probably doomed from the start, but after so much money and hype, the movie was fucked.

Similarly, after all this hype for WWE films, talk for a couple of years even, anyone who was interested (e.g. anyone not going "lolwrestlersacting") probably expected a little better than a high-budget B-movie. Maybe not much more, but like, a B+ movie.

But you compare these movies with other summer blockbusters, and it's about on par. And compared to other, similar genres of movie, they're fucking brilliant. I mean, video game and comic book movies (barring Batman and a couple others) make the Marine look amazing.

Juan 01-17-2009 08:33 PM

I haven't seen any WWE films, don't plan on starting with this one.

It's about 7 bucks for a rental, too. Which is why I tend to use Netflix now. But yeah, I take your point, because I'll probably Netflix it, because that's an acceptable cost for me. I couldn't see myself waiting in line for it, but on a day with nothing to do, having it sent to me at my leisure is cool.

Everyone has a threshold and a price. :D

James Steele 01-17-2009 08:40 PM

I will admit that I liked See No Evil and The Condemned, but I refuse to watch John Cena films out of principle.

YOUR Hero 01-17-2009 09:46 PM

Trailer looked alright. Looked as good if not better than your typical Hollywood releases. I won't go out of my way to see it, but I won't give it a wide berth either.

Afterlife 01-17-2009 11:28 PM

The trailer did not look alright. His VO in the beginning was simply awful. That's not acting, that's reading out loud. And the fact that the villian actually used the fucking phrase "it's a game" sent a nauseaeting quiver of cliche through my body. This is nothing but a grapeshot of trite and genreic "ideas" with a remarkably generic Steven Seagal title.

Kalyx triaD 01-18-2009 12:17 AM

Where's the fun in simply blowing up the house with Cena and his girlfriend in it? You gotta play a game that gives the hero some chance to beat you. That's the first thing they teach you in villain school.
