Does the era, affect how much you like something?

Let me clarify. Does the era that certain music was created in affect how much you like it? Like, obviously you are going to like something if it sounds good. But do you like things more?

For instance, The Downward Spiral, from NIN is absolutely amazing because of when it came out. I love it anyways, but the fact that it came out when it did was like "Wow, I can't believe that sound existed when it did."

Broken and Pretty Hate Machine were awesome in their own right, but the evolution to TDS was just amazing.

OK Computer is another one of those albums for me. Just blows my mind that it came out when it did.

Yes, late 90s I thought Limp Bizkit was the shit, I can only enjoy them now if I am in a 'late 90s' mood. rofl sounds pretty gay 'late 90s mood' but I fucking stand by what I said.

Welll, in a way sometimes. For instance, if I listen to a Joy Division song I appreciate how revolutionary and original it was, compared to something modern that obviously followed suit.
I would use it to guage intertextuality and importance, but not quality.

^That is what I was getting at.

Like I said, obviously you are going to like something if it sounds good to you. But certain things, I have a greater appreciation for because of how truly new and shocking the sound was at the time they came out.

Late 80's to mid 90's hip/hop will always be my music of choice.

No. Incapable of doing this. This is why I do not listen to a lot of old music.
