The Streak by The Numbers
The Undertaker's streak is something that the WWE has been making a really big deal about for quite some time, as well they should. The Streak is something uniquely The Undertaker's, its his legacy. Sure many wrestlers have been Grand Slam, Triple Crown, or multi-time World Champions but only the Undertaker can lay claim to his streak. However, just how astounding is his streak? Obviously being 16 and 0 in a buisness where the outcomes are predetermined isn't "unbelievable" in the sense it would be in a real sport. It could be said that the mere fact that the bring it up so constantly is the reason why it persists for so long. However, consider the fact that the first time they really hyped up The Undertaker being undefeated at Wrestlemania was at Wrestlemania X-8 after he'd beaten Ric Flair to improve to 10-0 that's 10 Wrestlemania's that he won before they hyped it.
Where am I going with all this? I'm going with all of this in order to show you some numbers as far as the streak is concerned... --58 people other than the Undertaker are undefeated at Wrestlemania. --Those 58 people have a combined record of 75-0-7 --Of those 58 people only 14 have more that 1 win. --Of those 14 only 5 have more than 2 wins --Of those 5 only 1 has more than 3 wins --The next most amount of wins without being defeated belongs to Rob Van Dam who is 4-0. --The Undertaker has been in the most Wrestlemania matches with 16. --The next closest is his opponent this year with 15 matches he is 6-9. --The next most amount of wins overall is a tie between Hulk Hogan and Breat Hart with 8 wins each... Their combined victories is equal to that of The Undertaker alone. --The combined record of The Undertaker's Wrestlemaina opponents is 33-46... --33-29 if you take away The Undertaker's matches with those wrestlers --The big 3 of the 'Attitude Era' (Austin, Rock, & Triple H) only have 14 combined Wrestlemania wins, two shy of what The Undertaker has alone... --The combined win total of all 5 wrestlers who will be wrestling in this years "Main Events" is 17 only 1 over what The Undertaker has alone... --4 of the "Main Eventers" this year have lost to The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. --Only one wrestler currently on the Wrestlemania XXV card debuted at Wrestlemania before The Streak began.... his opponent this year. |
Nice. It's quite a unique aspect of the character.
I have to wonder at what point did they realize they had something with the streak. |

Thought this was gonna be about Goldberg's streak.
Like "Goldberg went 176-0 (or whatever it was). 67 of these wins came against El Dandy." |

So, is there any connection in that info relating to the number 23?

I can pretty much tell you anyone's win loss record at Wrestlemania. |

However, though he made his Wrestlemania in-ring debut at X-8 he did drive the Honky Tonk man to the ring at VI. |
WrestlemaniaX-8 was the most star studded event nearly everyone on the advertised card was a world champ at one point. (20 former world champions, (if you count Nash))
|
It just occurred to me that it's a good thing that Taker never beat Benoit at Wrestlemania... it would really fuck up the video packages to have a number missing.

Those are some very interesting facts about the streak, Show Off. Well done. :y:
|
I think I remember the streak first being mentioned at WrestleMania X-7, by Jim Ross. Since then, it's been played up as part of The Undertaker's mystique, I think.
|
I doubt Show Off's claims of compiling that list himself. Show me some proof and I will rep you.

You know it's not that hard to do, all the results for past mania's would be simple to find on the net, with a bit of spreadsheet work you can work it all out.
Of course that means he would have to be arsed to do the extra work, but I believe in the show off |
Nice work, ShoNash

As far as it being mentiond before then... Taker missed WM2000, and at WM15 he was deeply involved in the Ministry angle... boasting a streak at that point wouldn't really have fit that image too well. So before then he was 9-0... certainly impressive at that point, but if they'd played it up at that point it probably would have been an easier call to end it. |
