How different would wrestling be if Hogan never joined the nWo?
 

Obviously, Hogan turning heel at Bash at the Beach was one of the most memorable moments in pro wrestling history that has had a profound impact on the whole business to this day. But it only seemingly happened by random chance. When the idea for the nWo was formed, Hogan wasn't even one of the names considered as the leader of the group. The first idea was to have Bret Hart sign with WCW and become the 3rd member. When he resigned with the WWF, the next choice was Sting. It was only when Bischoff mentioned something about the group to Hogan when they were hanging out that Hogan suggested he be the 3rd man.

So the question is, what would've happened if Bret Hart or Sting would've been the leader of the nWo instead of Hogan? If Sting was the leader, who would've led the WCW side? Hogan? Savage? I think Savage as the guy who went into the metamorphosis that Sting did would've been pretty badass.

Let's speculate.

WCW would have died a lot sooner.
Since Hogan went to WCW the fans really wanted to boo him. He was the John Cena of his era, getting crammed down our throats with no mercy what so ever. They could book a Hogan (ultra good guy face) vs Flair (child killing and kitten eating heel) and Flair would still get the bigger pop.

Do you think it would've killed WCW? If Bret Hart comes to WCW, he's not there to put Austin over and we never have the Hart Foundation vs DX which means no screwjob and arguably no Attitude Era.

The nwo wouldn't have had the impact it did. Hall and Nash had previous runs before in wcw and never really amounted to much. When they came back from the wwf they at least had more recognition, Hogan was pretty much the spark that ignited the nwo and gave it legitimacy.

Without him it would have fizzled out much sooner, if it actually would have worked at all.

Without Hogan the nWo would not have been half as successful. It would have been just another stable.

To be fair, Flair could have gotten the pop against Jesus, even with that image.

I still insist though that it did more for Hogan than it did for Hall and Nash. It was a combination of two great things happening at once: Hall and Nash showing up to do nothing but be awesome, and Hogan turning heel just at a point where the fans weren't going to take one second more of Hulkamania.

Attitude era never would have happened. Or at least not been as big and bold as it was.

WCW would have wrestlecrapped itself to an early grave and Hogan would have gone on to film Mr. Nanny 2: The Babysitter's Back and This Time It's Personal.
