Better Wrestler #68

Eddie moves onto the 3rd round after a clear victory over Arn Anderson. Will he be able to slither past his next opponent?

VS

Jake "The Snake" Roberts

Tres dios.

thedamndest 03-28-2009 02:45 PM

Lying, cheating, stealing, vs. trust me.

Nark Order 03-28-2009 02:47 PM

Eddie vs Randy the Ram?? interesting.

Jeritron 03-28-2009 03:38 PM

bumpin this for now

Anybody Thrilla 03-28-2009 04:05 PM

Jake Roberts was just a feud maker. Everything he was involved in instantly became interesting. He worked well as a heel or a face (as did Eddie, I suppose)...but maybe it's just the old school in me that had no problem voting for Jake Roberts here.

Londoner 03-28-2009 04:53 PM

Eddie wins easily for me. Was always one of my favourites, can't find a single fault with him.

Good Ol JG 03-28-2009 05:09 PM

No question Eddie had a greater career, but I'm an admitted Jake mark so he gets my vote. When you talk about psychology and mic work Jake goes at or near the top of the list. And his work in the ring was also superb, I think people forget that.

mike adamle 03-28-2009 05:14 PM

i'm just not and eddie mark, i know he was great and everything, but i just never got really excited about him or anything, jake gets it

The Optimist 03-28-2009 05:16 PM

Jake doesn't come close. There's no areas that Eddie is worse than Jake in that pertain to wrestling even loosely.

If you say so buddy

Jake

Gerard 03-28-2009 05:24 PM

Jake

The Optimist 03-28-2009 05:26 PM

Someone get some really great Jake Roberts videos in here. Is that legal? Or do we have to give Eddie an equal number of videos? Because I want to see how wrong I was/am.

Jeritron 03-28-2009 05:28 PM

You can post or discuss whatever you want as long as it's on the topic of the matchup, or one of the two wrestlers in question.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-28-2009 05:35 PM

Jake gets my vote. Probably my favorite heel of all time.

Jeritron 03-28-2009 05:36 PM

Interesting stuff.

Stealth-Icon 03-28-2009 05:52 PM

Best WWF wrestler never to hold a title. Jake

Kick Cenas Face 03-28-2009 07:25 PM

One of the best examples of wasted potnetial. But man could he talk some shit and back it up. DDT!!!!! DDT!!!!!! Jake all the way I bet this one will be neck and neck.

Juan 03-28-2009 07:55 PM

Jake the fuckin Snake. A staple in the WWF in the early 90's

Ruien 03-28-2009 08:15 PM

Voted for Eddie, but I hope Jake wins. But ya, Eddie carried Smackdown!, Jake never had to carry anything nor could he.

Arashi Kage 03-28-2009 09:46 PM

Uncle Eddie was great, but Jake wins this based on promo / mic work alone.

Gotta love the good old days. :y:

Krimzon7 03-28-2009 09:54 PM

Eddie over the jobber in this one...

Juan 03-29-2009 01:21 AM

all tied up baby

Destor 03-29-2009 02:23 AM

Hot match, brilliant match Jerry

Kick Cenas Face 03-29-2009 02:41 AM

Eddie couldn't play mind games like Jake could though...... His psychology in the ring was just awesome.

Exyle 03-29-2009 02:46 AM

I've always been of the opinion that Jake is (was) one of the greatest minds in the business. His promos are second to none, and when he hit the DDT, everyone knew it meant something.

I could go off on a tangent about how the DDT is overused in the modern era, but that's another discussion.

Now what kind of stupid fucking logic is this?

Ruien 03-29-2009 04:50 AM

The mark in me wants Jake to win, but I feel like Eddie was the better wrestler. Stupid logic? Naw, maybe you should ask politely before insulting.

ron the dial 03-29-2009 12:15 PM

jake the snake, no question. he was one of the first heels that i liked growing up. something about the presence that he brought to the screen made you pay attention. he demanded it. no knock to eddie here, but jake roberts is the fucking man, no doubt.

Logic has nothing to do with these threads. If you want Jake to win, vote for Jake. It doesn't get much more simple than that. There would be absolutely no consequences for you voting for Jake.

Innovator 03-29-2009 01:26 PM

Probably one of the toughest ones, slightly went with Eddie

Rammsteinmad 03-29-2009 01:28 PM

Eddie Guerrero.

Never really cared for Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. Just an interesting note that I've trained with Jake and wrestled on the same show as him before BUUUUUUUT I think by now most indy wrestlers have.

Also, Eddie Guerrero is just a lot better and more fun to watch IMO.

Innovator 03-29-2009 02:08 PM

I loved both guys. Jake was THE guy who started the intense quiet promos. Don't have to yell to get his point across, and it drew you in. Fuck, he gave us the DDT.

But there is something about Eddie that made me vote for him.

The Gold Standard 03-29-2009 03:20 PM

Never a big fan of Jake, so Eddie gets my vote

WestNZ 03-29-2009 04:33 PM

in a vote like thiis, i got to go with the classics, Jake by a long way

So your telling me how to play a game with no rules? If I think someone is the better wrestler, I will vote for them. You play your way, I will play mine.

Nah, the idea is too vote for who you think is better, while it's acceptable to vote for markish reasons it isn't the idea.

Theo Dious 03-29-2009 06:37 PM

I'd vote for Jake out of spite, but the fact is I don't have to. Jake was one of the best (if not THE best) psychological workers of his time. I really feel like he was further up the ladder in the way he worked than Eddie was in the way he worked.

Also, he's definitely a far better drunk and druggie than Eddie was... since, you know... still alive an all.

Theo Dious 03-29-2009 06:39 PM

Also, Jake was one of the first guys to successfully work heelishly while still solidly in a face role.
