That kinda sounds like Evanescence to me, but then again I don't know shit about modern music and only heard some songs that were on tv.
|
Your singer could do with a bit more vocal range.
|
How long have you been together? You don't look like a band. You look like some friends who got together to play the high school talent show. Not much stage presence or particular charisma on any of you, but your vocalist in particular is just fucking awful. Dude just stands around. And doesn't have a very good voice to begin with.
The music itself was ok. |
lol those were their first 2 shows, calm down.
Yeah dude your lead singer hurts my soul :(. All the instrumental stuff is pretty bomb though. |
I am wearing the hat on the left
|
But bottom left, not the other guitarist in the band lol

We had a show next day and did much better. This one wasn't even that bad though. |
Instruments are tolerable. As soon as your singer started wailing I stopped the vid. You need to ditch that guy fast.
|
I sense a consensus developing.
|
work on the vocal harmony, christ
|
Here is a third song from that night.

Penner, your lead singer is the equivalent of clancy wiggum was to the b sharps
|
Well, the vocals would be more acceptable if the guy was also playing rhythm guitar or bass or doing anything else but if you are just utilizing him for his vocal talents alone, you might want to consider getting somebody that can hit those notes a little better. Overall, it isn't as bad as everyone is making it sound. I quite liked it. But yeah, get a better vocalist and you guys are golden.
|
He's good for us. Plus we've all known him forever and he's our good buddy. If we can just throw down a lot of backups and stuff I think it will sound mint.

Listen, if this is just something you are doing for fun then your singer is fine. If you want to actually get anywhere though, I'd replace him. Not only because I think you could do better but because he's going to ruin his voice even more singing like that. If you keep him, at least have him take some voice lesson from a seasoned professional.

PS. Penner is a sick, sick, sick guitarist. |
lol you guys should do a brief encore every time where your drummer and your bassist do blot rockin beats or whatever that fuckin song is.
|
Your "singer" is fucking awful
|
Some of the instrumental stuff is good, most of it is mediocre. Part of that is probably just that it's a live performance, since the video makes it sound like you have no balls. There are rhythm/tempo issues periodically, but you say it's the first time you performed live, so I expect kinks like that.
But yeah, your singer is fucking terrible. If you want to keep him, feel free, but I'm pretty sure that's going to be a serious problem for you. The tunes themselves are pretty decent, really. I could see them being pretty damn good with a little polish and a singer who doesn't suck eight kinds of ass. |
Thanks for the criticism guys. I will be keeping our singer. I'm not going to change him because of some message board.
We went through like 5 singers before we settled on our buddy so you kinda see why it happened. That being said, I still think he's decent, and with a solid backing band things are going to be fine. We are recording 4 tracks at the moment, I'll let you guys know when they are up so you can listen. |
its worth taking on board. i think you should at least suggest lessons to your singer and guage how dedicated he is off that. if you're just playing gigs for fun and have no aspirations beyond that then it's fine, enjoy yourself, but if you're aiming for something higher you really need to adapt. he is the focal point and front man of your band and the rest of you could be as cool as led zeppelin in the background but with the guy wailing away like that people are going to tune out and/or leave.
im not saying you need to dump him cause honestly anyone can sing pretty much, but you need to check out his determination and discipline. i know how hard it is to find reliable people to form bands with. ps. cool kids play with their guitar hanging low. |
Guitar players who play difficult shit wear it high. e.g. Protest The Hero
|
He is dedicated. The 4 singers before him constantly flaked on us or were worse.
Plus he's our buddy from high school and we like him. |

I don't think your singer is that bad he just seems to have ZERO confidence and stage presence. You guys are kinda a bit boring musically and on stage. Still that will improve I understand its early days.
If you actually have a PROPER recording with decent levels I will judge your singer but the dude is terribly mixed in the performance. EDIT And its not like a good singer is a necessity to being a successful "punk" group anyway. Look at Castevet or something like that. Having your vocals mixed to the point of DROWNING out the instruments though is silly. My ears actually bled a little when he started to yell. The fundamentals are all there. You guys can play your instruments its just its music I have heard before a thousand different times, with a nervous singer and a group with very little stage presence. You need to find your own sound :p |
Did one of you mass spam my video?
Who is that much of a loser? |
