Really, are they for serious with this? Lackluster.

Trump "owns" raw? That was the biggest disappointment ever.

Discuss.

Destor 06-16-2009 11:03 AM

How do you own a brand anyhow?

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 11:08 AM

You know they were is Charlotte, NC. So naturally I was expecting Flair, plus I remember some sort of rumor saying he was going to be GM, that would have made sense and got a pop.

I was hoping it would have been Bischoff. I could have seen it go to Shane or even dare say HHH as a way for Vince to start fading out. It would have been completely crazy if it was Ted Turner.

But no, it was Trump? Really, that guy? What does he have to do with wrestling?

Same way you don't need a belt because you are super over.

Gertner 06-16-2009 11:11 AM

I have this odd feeling that this is something so stupid that it works.

Marks are what wrestling is all about.

When you can build a successful empire around smarks, let me know.

NeanderCarl 06-16-2009 11:32 AM

They pretty much were doing it... then they decided they'd rather target dumb kids instead. To each his own.

True Brit Grit 06-16-2009 11:40 AM

Wow. Three hours of my life I can never get back....

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 11:40 AM

And you know what will really bring in dumb kids? Donald Trump's weird hair.

No, they were targeting teens and adults. Adult=/=smark.

Team Sheep 06-16-2009 12:03 PM

Haha great. I loved the Trump/Vince feud in 2007. Glad it's back, some interesting drama.

Gertner 06-16-2009 12:16 PM

At least it's something different.

legendkillerRKO 06-16-2009 12:18 PM

I love all the people who say they lost me as a fan or i hate this...yet they will be tuned in next monday to see where this all goes...all that matters is that the belt is back where it belongs

Destor 06-16-2009 12:21 PM

LOL

This the first time I've actually sat down and tried to watch since february. I don't think I'm tuning in again for a long time.

I've had personal issues that seemed more important than wrestling lately, and now that the issues have simmered down, I tried to watch. But if this is what they are doing, pass.

Well, I know you're completely unware of happening outside of the WWE but smarks have been used to build every modern raised promotion in the states (ECW, RoH, TNA) and every fan in Japan is smart so yeah. Not really a good joke/point.

Again, when you have built a successful empire, let us know.

Destor 06-16-2009 12:36 PM

The Jappaneese have done it.

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 12:38 PM

Have you?

Destor 06-16-2009 12:40 PM

OIC.

Yeah gotcha. What a stupid argument that is.

thedamndest 06-16-2009 02:04 PM

There are probably lots more people who shouldn't own Raw. Rosie O'Donnell, Paris Hilton, Daniel Baldwin, you get the idea. Donald Trump is slightly above them in that he at least has SOME history with the wrestling business. I'm not just talking about shaving Vince, but he's hosted Wrestlemania a few times at Trump plaza (even though most of the current fans weren't born then).

That said, it would have made more sense to have somebody from the wrestling universe and not just with a passing affiliation to buy the show. Flair, Turner, Heyman, Shane, even Mike Adamle probably would have been better choices. This is a clear attempt a grabbing an audience, but with The Donald? He overstayed his pop culture welcome about four years ago.

That said, the matches featuring Smackdown superstars last night were quite good. Surprisingly, the Big Show looked dominant for a little bit. I hope that continues.

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 02:11 PM

No, I see your point about he does have some passing history with the wrestling business. But it was just hard to watch when he was ranting about how he is going to give back to the WWE Universe and how great raw is but Vince has been running it into the ground or whatever. And then talking about how he is going to do something no one has done before by making it no commercials for one show. Who gives a fuck?

thedamndest 06-16-2009 02:16 PM

Yeah, I would have preferred they not do the angle rather than get The Donald. Or get Flair. But I guess Flair can't give back to the WWE Universe AND make ET headlines.

I am glad Vince didn't do the whole giving back thing since it would have been his 1000th arbitrary face/heel turn. He's getting to be like Monty Burns with those trademark changes of heart.

erickman 06-16-2009 02:33 PM

how long before trump names a gm i see trump geting board with this in 2 weeks, i do not see him being there every wneek. kind of wish he would name bischoff

LOL ECW/TNA. I missed the time where they were an empire. That's like comparing a blogger to newscorp.

Let's stick to the US, though.

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 02:38 PM

I was really hoping for bischoff or shane.

You know who I was hoping for?

Not Trump.

I was dreading the notion it might be Flair, but by comparison....

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 02:52 PM

Exactly. I knew it would be someone boring...but Trump is just right out. It is like when someone is going to taco bell, and you give them a few bucks saying hey get me whatever this will buy. When they come back they give you a soda and 3 dollars in change.

Xero 06-16-2009 02:58 PM

It's like you're jerking off. You're sitting there, and you know what's going to be coming. But then a rabid dog bursts through the door and bites off your dick.

That's sort of like last night.

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2009 03:07 PM

It is like sneaking into your parents closet in mid december to see all your present, then on christmas morning, you get socks, a wrench set, and some really nice suits...and there is no sign of the x-box anywhere.

GD 06-16-2009 03:08 PM

Fuck is going in here?

Droford 06-16-2009 03:11 PM

I am predicting that he will sell it back to Shane in exactly 1 year, when the 6/15/10 Raw will be on his 64th Birthday.

Xero 06-16-2009 03:12 PM

I'm predicting Trump leaves within two months, but not before plugging a new season of the Apprentice.

Yeah, it's bad enough you were expecting Taco Bell, but to not even get that....

My main question really boils down to "to what end?"

I mean, I guess the answer is "ratings," but maybe a little more of a plan?

Evil Vito 06-16-2009 03:15 PM

Donald Trump owning Raw is stupid, and was a huge let down. However, I'll admit I'm curious how long they go with this. Will Trump make appearances on the tron each week? (fuck knows he won't be there live each week).....and I have to admit I'd get a good laugh out of seeing Trump on the Raw Superstars page, if he makes it that far.

Johnny Vegas 06-16-2009 04:07 PM

trump owning raw is interesting. God, why dont you fucks just STOP WATCHING RAW. Its like complaining that your mom's house is so hot but you wont move out. I respect opinions but first ppl dont want shit to be predictable and you got it. God damn, give it a shot first b4 you shit on it. You guys are sounding like vince/hhh/steph in a meeting in 2003 with good ideas.

sulzerdrone 06-16-2009 04:16 PM

You guys are missing the point. After watching the segment with Trump and Vince, It's obvious that Trump is exactly what the WWE universe needs. The most electrifying man in ZZZZZzzzzzzz...............
