Wow, an actual contribution to the wrestling forum from St. Jimmy.

BDR 08-21-2009 01:10 PM

Does not like the vault's direct competition.

St. Jimmy 08-21-2009 03:31 PM

The vault doesn't show much wrestling, and it's mostly ROH/WWF product. WCW was better. Also I cannot STAND ROH.

WCW was better.

And my opinion is all that matters. :y:

BigDaddyCool 08-21-2009 06:19 PM

I don't know...but I do miss them.

The Outsiders, The Horsemen, non b-team nWo, the Luchas, Crow Sting, Tony Shavone, War Games, World War 3. So much greatness.

And if you go back, The Hollywood Blondes, Cactus Jack, Vader, Rick Rude as WCW International Champion. Fucking amazing.

kareru 08-21-2009 06:23 PM

and nWo-Souled out 1997

St. Jimmy 08-21-2009 06:23 PM

funniest PPV ever.

Indifferent Clox 08-21-2009 06:25 PM

There was a WCW International championship?

St. Jimmy 08-21-2009 06:27 PM

BigDaddyCool 08-21-2009 06:28 PM

Plus just solid undercard wrestling. Oh, and Nash.

St. Jimmy 08-21-2009 06:32 PM

Exactly. Nash was the most expensive man to be in the ring with, fined with those 50K per Jacknife.

St. Jimmy 08-21-2009 06:43 PM

Also, Drunk Scott Hall :y:

Vastardikai 08-21-2009 06:49 PM

They also had "the Lone Wolf" era of Barry Windham, which I still say is one of the main inspirations behind "the Game" gimmick for Trips.

Kami Raki 08-21-2009 07:36 PM

Wrestling wise, I'd say yeah. Even in it's dying years WCW had solid wrestling.

Afterlife 08-21-2009 07:38 PM

Never watched it. Kinda glad.

Nicky Fives 08-21-2009 07:42 PM

the best moments of WCW are better than WWE nowadays, but the crappier WCW moments cannot be compared with the crappy moments of WWE....

USAUSA1 08-21-2009 11:39 PM

Look at each company peak:

WCW:97 or 98 depending on who you ask(people might forgot about 1998 due to the Mcmahon vs. Austin storyline and Russo crash tv but WCW was still pretty damn awesome to the point even Hogan was having high quality matches from time to time)

WWE:87,89,97,98 depending on who you ask but these four years will get the most votes.

ECW:94-95 by far

TNA:LOL its hard to choose.

AAA: 94

CMLL:too hard to tell but they were breaking records in 2005/2006.

JCP:1986

Mid SOuth:84

WCCW:83

I always thought WCW in 1997 was the perfect wrestling company. You had many different styles, variety of wrestlers from around the world that truly felt like a worldwide organization. The storylines drew heat, you had big names, legends. You had enough tv time for everyone but it didn't feel oversaturated like WWE trying to put a show on television every night of the week. Nitro was the main show, Pro and Main event was the 1 hour cable weekend shows for c list guys and to review storylines. Worldwide was the national syndicated show like Pro and Main event but use big stars from time to time. Saturday night was the show that had ALL THE IN RING ACTION and was strictly to showcase the best wrestling possible. They had everything, and it truly felt like a WORLDWIDE wrestling federation. WWE might called itself the biggest wrestling fed in the world but I don't see any lucha, puro, international wrestlers on the shows. Same goes for TNA and ROH. World Elite, they might be international wrestlers but they act and wrestle like everyone else so it's not really a variety.

Bad Company 08-22-2009 12:08 AM

WCW was my favourite.

kareru 08-22-2009 11:09 AM

Indifferent Clox 08-22-2009 11:16 AM

Not on every show and where is the lucha?

Indifferent Clox 08-22-2009 05:40 PM

They have a lot of lucha style wrestlers every so often.

kareru 08-22-2009 05:48 PM

wcw popularized many of the luchadors

Cactus Jack Lost In Cleveland, "That '70s Guy" Mike Awesome, Black Scorpion, David Arquette, Shockmaster, Chamber of Horror, G.I. Bro, Oklahoma, Oz, Dennis Rodman, Jay Leno, Karl Malone, Spin the Wheel Make the Deal, The Yeti...

I loved WCW too, but they had just as much, if not more, terrible storylines and characters as WWF/E.

I think strong cases could all be made for '96 (debuts of Rock, and Angle), as well as '99-'01, as far as the peak period in the WWE.
