Caster Semenya

Has anybody been following the gender controversy surrounding the South African 800-meter champion at last week's athletics world championships?

I watched her semifinal and my first thought was: that's got to be a man. Beyond the overall masculinity in her body structure, it sure didn't help that she wears long shorts and has short hair. So it wasn't really surprising when the next day they asked her to be tested.

Anyway, from the sounds of it, she might have been born with female parts, but internally has the XY chromosomes and be more male than female.

Where do you stand on this? It's hard because, if true, it's not like she underwent surgery or anything. Legally she would be considered a female based on her sex, but she obviously has a vastly different makeup than any other females competing in athletics.

it was on the bbc website before her test results show she has 3 times the usual amount of testosterone in her body or summat.

If its not true shes been fairly savaged in the media by it all being made public which is a bit of a disgrace.

Yeah even if she's a he this still should have been dealt with fucking ages ago.

Yep. I'm sure she has to deal with that from people, but on the day she wins a gold medal, the day that's supposed to be her crowning achievement, this comes up? Feel bad for her if it's not true...

She was apparently greeted as a hero in South Africa though, which at the very least is positive for her. It really is too bad that they didn't figure to do this before she raced.

Doesn't really mean anything on its own.

Anyway, maybe a famous case like this will get people thinking properly on gender identity. Probability is that she is a bit of both: female physically, male physiologically. Then again, female athletes are always physiologically different to normal females. Her genetics shouldn't really come into it, sport is about genetic advantages.

Caster Semenya is the perfect name for a he-she hybrid.

Pretty sure some women do naturally have higher T levels anyhow, just like some blokes (Skippord for instance) have lower than average levels, etc. Also apparently her trainer has form for giving performance enhancers to his athletes, Testosterone among them I would've thought.

But yeah, who knows. I just think it was insane and awful that the IAAF splashed it across the media world like a political smear story BEFORE the final. No class and no professionalism on their part.

I heard on the radio she's in seclusion, very down mentally.
