NHL 2009-2010 Season Thread

Season starts in 4 days. Time to stop using the off season thread. Can't wait till the 1st, get to see my first ever number retirement in person

El Fangel 09-28-2009 10:04 PM

Man, I am so excited :)

Emperor Smeat 09-28-2009 10:13 PM

Can't wait to see who Lucic puts through the glass this year. Crazy when he shattered the glass on a Maple Leaf player last year.

El Fangel 09-28-2009 10:18 PM

Man, first game of the year is Montreal vs Toronto. Its awesome for the Habs to start off with a winning record.

Considering the Leafs have owned the Habs the past two seasons I doubt that. Combine that with your 12 vagina forwards and I don't like your odds. Gonna be hard to pick between 2 of your former favourite teams. Does the winner get to be FA's jersey of the week?

YOUR Hero 09-29-2009 10:07 AM

you two need to bet your avatar rite now. for 1 week over this game. do it.

Gertner 09-29-2009 10:43 AM

I'll do that. Although if T.O wins Angel will probably keep that avatar forever since Toronto would become his new favourite team.

HAHA! Fucking rights.

Gertner 09-29-2009 06:49 PM

lol Jay Rosehill made the Leafs. They may have to scrape the Habs off the end boards after Thursday.

Ill do it. Toronto Logo if Habs lose for me, Montreal Logo if Toronto loses for you.

Deal?

Gertner 09-30-2009 02:18 PM

Deal.

El Fangel 09-30-2009 02:47 PM

Just watched the fight between Neil and Lucic and I know why you love him.

lol ok.

Orr is losing his first fight of the regular season as a Leaf tomorrow, our players will skate circles around your no talent hacks, which pretty much means all 4 of your forward lines, and Komi is going to forget who he plays for and cough up a nice dish for us to pot behind your excellent Toskala.

The Habs are the better team, in every way imaginable, not just on paper.

Gertner 09-30-2009 04:13 PM

Except that they're soft as a sponge, their defence is not as good as Toronto, and the Leafs aren't slow.

Zen v.W.o. 09-30-2009 04:38 PM

We're faster actually.

We aren't soft. We tossed most of the soft guys out and replaced them with grit and north americans. Even last season though we outhit most teams, we added size on our blue line, and our fighters are better than those of the Leafs.

BGL alone can decimate anyone on your roster, but if he needs help Moen and Stewie will mop up the rest.

Gertner 09-30-2009 04:46 PM

lol your fighters ARE NOT better than Toronto. Stewart sucks ass, Moen is decent and Laraque is very good. Orr is great, Rosehill is good, Schenn isn't bad, neither is Exelby or Komisarek when he's not fighting Lucic. lol and the size you added has no foot speed whatsoever. Mara is a puss as is Gill.

Gertner 09-30-2009 04:48 PM

Markov - Spacek
Gill - Mara
Gorges - O'Byrne

That right there is the softest defence in the NHL.

El Fangel 09-30-2009 05:31 PM

Torontos Depth Chart

LW ---- C ---- RW

Line 1
(---) --- (---) --- (Kessel)

Line 2
Ponikarovsky - Stajan - Blake

Line 3
Stalberg - Grabovski - Hagman

Line 4
Wallin - Mitchell - Stempniak

Gertner 09-30-2009 05:32 PM

Our 4th line is the tougest in the league: Rosehill-Primeau-Orr

Gertner 09-30-2009 05:34 PM

and btw the "Leafs can't score" arguement is retarded. The leafs were 10th in goals for last year.

El Fangel 09-30-2009 05:44 PM

I have to admit, I am excited to see Gustavsson ni regular season play.

Laraque is the champ, thus greater than anyone on your roster. He also pounded Orr with ease earlier.
Stewart is actually better than Moen. And Moen is pretty decent.

Exelby and Komi dont really fight, Schenn neither. Rosehill wont stay up once Mayers comes back so it's a moot point, and Orr is your only legit tough guy besides that. Leafs toughness is overrated.

Our top 6 dominates yours, our bottom 6 is also better. Our D isnt as soft as you seem to believe, could use a bit more speed on the backend though.

Price and Halak are superior to TO's situation in goal.

Gertner 09-30-2009 06:17 PM

lol yeah Price was AMAZING last year.

Komi and Exelby fight enough, maybe between 4-6 a season. Orr has problems with big lefties for some reason, but he's top 5. I hope Mayers is out for a while, becaus I thought he stunk last year.

Your top 6 "dominated" us last year yet Toronto scored more goals. Explain that. It's not about a few guys going 30, it's about 7-8 guys scoring between 15-20, which Toronto has.

And your d is horribly soft.

I'll explain that because we had a different top 6 last year.

Gertner 10-01-2009 12:36 AM

Yeah, replaced with a midget who had one really good year, a 2nd line center masquerading as a 1st, and Cammalleri. Good luck with that.

weather vane 10-01-2009 01:36 AM

How about both your teams are brutal and the Bruins will pile them both... AGAIN.

Price pre- All star break was amazing. Afterwards I sadly have to agree with your sarcasm.

Orr is a great fighter yes, however you are overrating Komi as a fighter, he is a far better checker then anyone on the Leafs. Exelby is an enigma to me, he does everything but never excells at any of it, he is a utility player it seems.

If Toronto can score more goals, how come they couldn't win? Its either defense or goaltending, Toskala is an excellent goalie, so I wonder what the problem is? Schenn and Kaberle cant do everything. Since Montreals blue line is not changed very much, I guess your assumiing the addition of Komi makes the difference. What we lost in Komi is made up for in Gill and Mara. We still have Markov and now Spacek, so I dont think it got worse, it actually got better. Torontos D is decent now at best, gritty as fuck but they need point producers like Markov and Spacek.

Gionta and Gomez were great in NJ, I am going to say that they mesh quite well again and Camel can produce anywheres it seems.

Your first line is

Poni - a decent second liner
Stajan - a decent second liner
Kessel - injured at the moment, but rather good I admit

Maybe on PP

Blake - shoots all day and scores 1/30

Gertner 10-01-2009 10:11 AM

When did I say Komisarek was a great fighter? I said he was alright. Toronto's probelm last year was defence and goaltending. Their defence is vastly improved. I don't know where u get that Toronto doesn't have puck moving d men. White, Kaberle and Beauchemin are all puck moving defencemen. Gill and Mara do not replace Komisarek's grit. Mara is notoriously soft as is Gill. Your defence is not at all improved. You'll be yelling at Mara all season, trust me.

weather vane 10-01-2009 11:20 AM

hashahaha Hal Gill and Paul Mara

Blitz 10-01-2009 12:05 PM

Leafs.

Actually you said he was a decent fighter. Toskala was rather good on SJ, couple that with Toronto losing Kaberle and it went to the shitter for them. Yes they have addressed their problems, but it looks more like hole filling then problem solving, they will still have problems with defense. I see them doing better, even squaking into the playoffs this year (purely on the back of gustavsson) Beauchemin is a good addition I must say and it will be interesting to see how well he fits in.

Mara I am worried about, I know he is soft but he has size and if he uses it he will prove smoewhat useful. Gill is a monster who I think they have moreso for the intimidation factor then anything.

and to be truthful, I would much like Komi back for Mara and Gill.

---

1.5 Hours left, so pumped.

Gertner 10-01-2009 05:50 PM

lol if you've seen Hal Gill fight you'd know he intimidates nobody, although he's a great pk defenceman, and Mara has never used his size well. He tries to be tough against smaller guys, but ends up getting his butt kicked when he fights. I always thought Mara was going to be a better d man than he turned out to be.

Beauchemin I believe will be the Leafs best d man. A number of people said he was one of the best d men in Team Canada's orientation camp. Beauchemin and Kaberle are going to work wonders on the Power Play.

And yeah Komi is a decent fighter, not as good as the heavy's in the NHL but he can hold his own. Rosehill and Orr will do the fighting for the Leafs so I don't see Komisarek fighting alot.

Arashi Kage 10-01-2009 07:19 PM

AWESOME!!!!! Lemieux and Coffey on center ice at the Leafs - Habs game.!!!!!!

- they are my two favorite players

Gertner 10-01-2009 07:40 PM

Orr and Laraque go at it. Solid draw, although I hate how Laraque bodyslams people to the ice. Somebody is going to get killed as a result of players doing that. Not picking on Laraque, but he's the prime offender. It's how that kid Sanderson died.

Gertner 10-01-2009 07:49 PM

Rosehill just whipped Moen's ass as expected.

Gertner 10-01-2009 07:56 PM

lol there's your Komi being too aggressive and Hal Gill's cement feet.

Droford 10-01-2009 07:58 PM

I was pissed because I can't watch the Caps game. Stupid Directv/VS crap.

Gertner 10-01-2009 08:05 PM

The habs dressing O'Byrne, Gill and Mara is going to hurt them. I'm surprised they didn't keep up Weber. That's 3 really slow defencemen.
