Also, dunno what kind of incentive this will offer, but rep for anyone who gives a plausible reason for voting the way they did. "Bret sux" and "Hunter sux" will not suffice.
|
I can't believe I'm actually saying this... but my nod goes to Hunter...
Bret was a phenomenal technician and told the story of wrestling better than anyone not named Shawn Michaels BUT, Triple H is more of a complete package. He can cut a promo better, rather he's a heel or a face. And I think the parallels of what Hunter is to the business now, and to what Bret was to the business then are very similar. Hunter is the guy who has carried the company through a rough patch, much in the way Bret did it in 93-94, only Hunter has done it not only in the ring, but as a writer, a promo, and a wrestler. So shockingly, I'm sticking with Hunter. |
Similar to what HBK2K said. Hunter is more of an all round competitor.
Plus I'm a HHH mark so meh. |
I'm no HHH hater, but there is no way he even comes close to how how good a technical wrestler Bret was and miles ahead in ring psychology.
|
I'd disagree with the psychology quip. I think Hunter slow builds up to the finish a little more than he should but the man knows how to put a match together and pace it. And while Bret is a better technical wrestler I think Hunter is more versatile in terms of specialty matches (Hunters ladder match being the better of the two for example) and I think Hunter is miles ahead in terms of promo work.
|
Triple H has all the components you look for in a great wrestler. He's got the look, the mic skills, the charisma, the dedication, and he's good in the ring. His feuds with Mick Foley and the Rock rate as two of my all time favorites. As far as the look, mic skills, and charisma go I'd say Triple H has a pretty big edge on Bret.
BUT, you cannot discount Bret's ability in the ring. Well, maybe you can but I can't. And I won't. |
Basically I'm using the same reasoning as HBM2k, yet coming to the opposite conclusion.
|
Bret for being miles ahead of HHH in the ring, for telling a story better than him and it's not even close, for cutting much more realistic promos that made you sense the feud was bigger than it was.
Bret also was a much better company man, even while main eventing he was the guy that would go out of his way to help the curtian jerkers, simply so the companies roster looked stronger. Most guys will say Bret gave them their best matches ever, and well the greatest feuds in wwe history sway towards the Hitmans side. HHH is mediocre in every category...there is nothing about him that stands out, and I think that's where his problem lies. HHH may be the most average wrestler to ever have as much success as he has gotten, but we know a big reason for that is because of who he's with. Bret Hart is simply better. |
"The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be"
|
Bret Hart. His match with Stone Cold that led to Stone Cold not tapping out to the sharpshooter but passing out from the pain ended up being influential in the rise of Stone Cold.
What hurts Triple H is the beginning of the Brand Split where he ruled RAW and squashed everyone for a good 2-3 years. Also around same time no other big heel was developed equal to Triple H. To be fair, his time as leader of DX after HBK was a great time. |
Bret Hart.
He is going to cruise to the Hall of Fame round where it will be Bret v Shawn and all the talk will start again |

Easy vote for Bret from me here. I don't hate Triple H or anything, but I really can't think of many Triple H matches where I was really impressed with him. Pretty overrated, in my opinion. There was the ladder match with The Rock, the career match with Foley...but that's about it. I enjoyed his Wrestlemania matches with Cena just for their hype. Same with his Batista Wrestlemania match....and maybe even the streetfight on Shawn Michaels return...but that catalogue pales in comparison to Bret's.
Bret/Shawn (Iron Man), Bret/Bulldog (SummerSlam), Bret/Perfect (SummerSlam), Bret/Austin (Wrestlemania OR Survivor Series), Bret/Owen (any time they wrestled), Bret/Piper (Wrestlemania)....Hart's resume just looks so much better on paper. And yes, I'm just a pretty big Bret Hart mark. Easy vote for me. |
I certainly don't dislike HHH, but, I've got to go with Hart on this one. There is just no way that Hunter is in the same league as Bret. HHH is great, but Bret Hart is excellent (/promo)
|
Hmmm. This is a hard one for me. That's what she said.
Overall... I think I'm going to have to go with Bret. Bret stood out to me over his whole career. Triple H has only had periods of Awesome, mixed with periods of simply above average, mixed with some staleness. |
Hunter lives and breathes wrestling and has done so since he first became involved in the business. Bret was born into the business and just one viewing of his DVD will tell you how many times he almost quit because he wasn't getting what he wanted out of it, but decided not to because someone gave him what he wanted. Additionally, while both of them have had periods of phoning it in, HHH definitely is definitely much better at his worst.
|
As much as I hate HHH, I have to give him credit for being strong on the mic and good enough in the ring to have stayed strong this long.
But Helmsley's matches on the biggest stages have never been near as memorable as Hart's, and that's the deciding factor for me. |
Bret Hart, but a tad. I wanted his sun glasses so bad as a kid.
Bret gave 1-2-3 Kid a great match, making 1-2-3 come off as a legit competitor while losing. If you can have someone lose and make them look great, you are special. |
Fantastic match, one of the best, if not the best RAW match ever.
|
Bret is purely one of the greatest wrestlers ever. If both these guys were able to wrestle in their prime I have no doubt Bret would put HHH to shame.
That easy. |
Also, WM13. :y:
|
And 12. :y: :y:
|
HHH is still around, for that sole fact that he isnt like Bret Hart and got with the bosses daughter is cause for my vote.
|
In relation to the first part of that, you know Bret is 12 years older than Triple H right?
|
That's without question the most retarded reasoning I've ever heard ever.
|
I meant that in reference that HHH didnt leave to go join the rival company. Anyways, take it as you will, I think Bret is a bitch and HHH along with a few others got the company to where it is today.
|
gonna go with Bret
because I like him better. |
I never thought I'd be able to vote against Bret Hart, but I did in this case. Triple H is just a better all around package than Bret. Granted, I feel Bret is a better technician than Triple H, but Triple H for a while there was THE MAN in the biz. The McMahon-Helmsley era anyone ?
|
Close one for me and when I tried to put my thoughts together, I seemed to be praising HHH more than Bret Hart so maybe I voted wrong :o

So? I fail to see how Bret leaving a company has any bearing on his abilities as a wrestler. So I guess Savage, Flair, Piper, Dibiase, Hennig, Rude, Hall, Nash are all disqualified for jumping to WCW too right?
|
Bret Hart. Easiest poll ever.
I can't stand HHH. Over the last ten years he hasn't done anything new or exciting. He's been using the same moves, wearing the same attires, and generally rehashing storylines over and over again. Plus we all know he is so far up Vince's ass that he pretty much runs the company and always end up getting his way. When was the last time Triple H had a feud where he didn't get the final victory? |
Quote:
I dont like the fact that any of them jumped to WCW, I just dont like Bret Hart more because of that. |
What an interesting set of developments in this argument. Bret really didn't have much choice though, did he? If your contract isn't getting renewed you aren't just going to hang around and wrestle for free.
|
HHH is good, but Hart is excellent.
The only thing HHH really has on Hart are his mic skills. And even then he usually shoots himself in the foot by being incredibly long winded. 02 - 04 were usually marked with a boring 20 minute HHH promo to start RAW. However, there's no comparison in the ring. Bret Hart could wrestle a broomstick and make it look good, while HHH's match quality is highly dependent on his opponent. He has great matches with great wrestlers, and shit matches with average wrestlers. |

My vote goes to HHH. He is an all around better competitor. His ring skills, mic skills, his presence make him one of the best in the business. There is no doubt Bret is one of if not the greatest techincal wrestlers of all time. My vote was strictly from a professional standpoint. HHH and Hart's personal lives had no influence. I don't care if Hart jumped ship nor do I care if HHH married the boss's daughter.
