RVD with his hair down

Do any pictures of videos exist of this? I bet he washes his hair in a ponytail.

redoneja 02-13-2010 09:05 PM

Look for his Summerslam 2002 match against Chris Beniot. His hair comes out of a ponytail during that match.

Match is kinda a "forgotten classic" IMO.

Well yeah, it's a Benoit match.

Fink being under contract and not ring announcing on one of the TV shows is so ridiculous

Xero 02-13-2010 11:17 PM

I'd imagine it's Fink's decision. Vince would be dumber than I thought if Fink wanted to work.

Though I don't understand why he doesn't do all of Mania. You'd think he'd be all for that.

Rammsteinmad 02-14-2010 12:47 PM

I asked this question a few years back, and the Benoit/RVD match was the only evidence I got as well.

This must be the only existing evidence of RVD with his hair down.

Jeritron 02-14-2010 01:28 PM

Is there a mugshot from when he got arrested?

I wouldn't be suprised if the police made him lose the ponytail

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would care?

Its only his hair....

Rammsteinmad 02-14-2010 03:04 PM

:y:

Xero 02-14-2010 03:51 PM

He looks completely different with it down.

Like a dog without its collar.

thedamndest 02-14-2010 04:03 PM

I believe it symbolizes RVD casting off the stigma of the scarlet letter and regaining some of his former beauty.

Gerard 02-14-2010 06:17 PM

Hmm 2 people remembered a match from 8 years back just due to the fact that van dam had his hair down.

He is.

Fink genuinely considers himself the greatest ring announcer of all time - and probably is, to be fair - but is a victim of the WWE's ageist attitude towards those who can actually do the job properly but are the victim of having been around since the 70s and 80s.

I guess it was a much smoother process to stick some broad on the mic and have her read prepared introductions than find someone to call an entire show. Hence Fink was much easier to replace than the likes of Jim Ross, who WWE would also much rather be without if only they could find somebody even half as good.

It's all about image. Perception is reality, and all that jazz. WWE doesn't feel they can be "cool" with guys in their 50s and 60s in prominent positions on the screen (unless their name is McMahon of course). It's the reason they took Fink off air. It's the reason they retired Flair. It's the reason they've tried to humiliate and replace JR for the better part of a decade. Apparently younger is better, in their eyes. Fuck experience, who needs it??

A few months back, Fink publically expressed his desire to work even one solitary show this year, so that his announcing career could officially encompass five different decades. To the best of my knowledge, he has yet to be 'allowed' to do so.

Xero 02-17-2010 06:28 PM

Wow.

And a damn fucking shame this is. I love the Fink. You would think with all the hoopla they make about Mania every year, they would let Fink call the entire show.

NeanderCarl 02-18-2010 01:37 PM

I guess that would be grossly unfair on the regular announcers, for Fink to swan in and call WrestleMania every year. Even though he's ten times better than them, it's not their fault they are in that position.

They usually throw him a bone with the Hall Of Fame introductions though, so I guess he'll (kinda) get his wish.

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2010 02:05 PM

He also got to announce The Dirt Sheet, which is pretty much as prestigious as Wrestlemania.

Lock Jaw 02-19-2010 04:28 PM

Bring back Fink as full time announcer, and Mean Gene as full time Mean Gene.

Xero 02-19-2010 04:46 PM

They should start calling the backstage interview area the "Mean Gene Position", like they do with the Gorilla Position.

Also, anyone with Twitter, #finkmania26 . Trend it. We need Fink for Mania.

Dave Youell 02-20-2010 06:14 AM

RVD wore his hair down in ECW once and wore Sabu's gear, to trick Taz (I think) when they were all feuding
