All stories tend to resemble one of a set group of stories that are told over and over. It's part of our culture. Nobody complains that Tommy Boy and Lion King are essentially the same movie.
I didn't hear anyone complaining about the story not being worthy of the visuals this year when Star Trek came out. It's more similar to the original Star Wars than Avatar is to Dances With Wolves.
It's a hero journey. There's thousands of them. The outsider from a hostile culture being assimilated into the pure world of natives is a classic story, and will be told over and over. These epic movies tend to follow archetypes

Exactly, Jeritron. I used that same example with Tommy Boy and Lion King when talking with a friend about this movie. I then pointed out that Lion King is essentially Shakespeare's Hamlet.
