However, as much as he did to prevent them from getting over, he was also a big reason why they were that over in the first place.
He was a great foil for faces that year. So much so, that with each passing burial/title retention, it got better and better. In a lot of ways, the crowds were rooting for him to lose the title, and not for the face to win it. RVD and Booker T, and others, were over on their own merit don't get me wrong. But his contributions as a heel were great.
I feel as though almost anyone would have the fans in their corner that year just by facing him for the title. If I recall correctly, he faced a lone Bubba Ray Dudley for the belt one night and the fans were way into it.
This was a big part of why YOUKNOWWHO's win was so great at the time.
He did a lot of burying, and caused me a lot of anger, but HHH in 2003 was a hell of a heel run.
