HHH isn't what he was before the first quad tear. He still is elite though. In the current world of wrestling, he's right there at the top.

He was better pre quad tear, but even slower, he's still in good company in terms of ability.

Out of the current line-up of wrestlers I'd probably be more interested in HHH/HBK/Jericho/Hardy matches than any other.
So for me, yes, I would consider him still at elite level as far as his "involvement" in upper card matches. Physically, different story, but then obviously it's hard to keep up at that level as you get older. |

I would definitely consider him part of the elite, truth is though, I'd much rather see him hang it up and watch from the sidelines.

One of the biggest criticisms anyone worthwhile in the industry offers up to young wrestlers (who aren't up at that level) is that they don't watch and listen to the "vets". Getting in the ring with someone like HHH, HBK, Flair, 'Taker does so much for their "learning the trade". Lance Storm recently bemoaned the fact that he never had the chance to wrestle Flair. There are so many young, green wrestlers coming through at the moment. Everytime they get involved in a storyline/match with guys like HHH they will learn something new (and I don't mean "what a douche HHH can be ![]() |

OK maybe not hang it up, but I don't think it would kill him to step out of the main event scene for a while.

I dunno, I like him in the main event scene on Smackdown these days. In fact, I haven't enjoyed HHH this much since 2001.
I'm a huge Jericho mark, and I'm more into the Smackdown main event these days than the Raw main event. That's because I think the mix of HHH, Hardy, Edge and even Kozlov is really interesting. I can't put my finger on it. It's a very well balanced main event picture. Nobody's overdone. You have an exciting fresh face to the main event in Hardy, a top tier heel in Edge, a new hateable hoss in Kozlov, and veteran greatness in HHH. It's not the best group of wrestlers ever, but for some reason they work really well as a group for me. Jericho is gold over on Raw, but I'm uninterested by his opposition. He's a shining light among the group, but he's surrouned by the usual suspects. Even if I don't like anyone on Smackdown as much as Jericho, I can't deny I'd rather a well rounded and enjoyable group of guys over one bright point in a handful of bland wrestlers. I find myself watching more Smackdown than Raw when I can. At least when it comes to the main events. Last edited by Jeritron; 12-15-2008 at 01:08 AM. |

And interestingly Koslov is where he is at the moment largely due to his program with HHH.

HHH has an interesting effect on wrestlers. He can make me care about a guy I normally wouldn't be able to stand. I enjoyed Kozlov in his program with HHH, and so far still do.
The same went for Umaga. When he fueded with HHH he felt far more legit than he ever did. |

Undertaker doesn't really have that gift. They put uninteresting guys out there with him in fueds and nobody cares. E.G Heidenreich.
Put them out there with HHH in a fued and they'll be tolerable for at least a little while. |

I seem to be of the same mind as Jeritron [/scared]
But I hated Umaga when he was Jamahl. In fact, the whole 3-minute warning thing got stale rather quickly. When he then appeared as Umaga, I was like "oh God no". But like Jeritron, when he feuded with HHH I became a fan. |

To be fair though, Umaga first became interesting in his fued with Jeff Hardy. Even during the Donald Trump bullshit I started to like him a bit.
His high point for me, though, was his fued with HHH. Jeff Hardy works well with Kozlov too. |

But you hate everybody Undertaker feuds with because it's the same feud: the guy "gets in the head of Taker until it culminates in either a Hell in a Cell or a Casket Match, sometimes Buried Alive (god he has a lot of specials).

Why would it scare you to be of the same mind as me? Being of the same mind as me = going places.
I'm just really throwing out thoughts though. I may change my mind in a few minutes time. I brainstorm here in wrestling. I kinda take back what I said about Heidenreich, he was a bad example. My assertion about HHH's ability to make guys look better by association stands though. It's part of why WWE marches him out there into the Wrestlemania main event every year. I'll be the first to complain about how overdone it's getting, but I can't deny how much he brings to it in terms of credibility. He got the job done with Cena where JBL couldn't, and the only reason Batista's worth a damn is because of him. He could mean worlds for Jeff and/or Edge. |

Kozlov's moveset is unique. He's extremely unlikeable, he's got a great look, all good things and only place to go is up as long as he stops getting these stupid DQ wins as part of his streak and once his streak ends they don't lose interest.

Think about Angle. He's one of the best wrestlers in the world, a top guy, and one of the best ever. He also gets guys over.
Not as much as HHH though. Think of what Angle did for Joe. I would imagine, if he wanted to, HHH could do twice as much for Joe. I'm not saying the matches would be as good, but he just has that quality. |

HHH's heel work in 2003 in underrated. I'll be the first to disapprove of the burials that occured and the missed oppurtunities with popular wrestlers.
However, as much as he did to prevent them from getting over, he was also a big reason why they were that over in the first place. He was a great foil for faces that year. So much so, that with each passing burial/title retention, it got better and better. In a lot of ways, the crowds were rooting for him to lose the title, and not for the face to win it. RVD and Booker T, and others, were over on their own merit don't get me wrong. But his contributions as a heel were great. I feel as though almost anyone would have the fans in their corner that year just by facing him for the title. If I recall correctly, he faced a lone Bubba Ray Dudley for the belt one night and the fans were way into it. This was a big part of why YOUKNOWWHO's win was so great at the time. He did a lot of burying, and caused me a lot of anger, but HHH in 2003 was a hell of a heel run. |

I mean in WWE too. I was thinking in WWE terms, with Angle.
For example, I was thinking of Joe in a WWE up and comers shoes against Angle/HHH |

I'm thinking of this in terms of who gives the better rub, Angle or HHH. Whether it be a hypothetical scenario of both in modern WWE, or their track records from 2000-2006.
Angle's the better wrestler, but I don't feel he gets guys over the way HHH does. I'm thinking more than in ring of course too. |

All things being equal, I think the site matters. Kurt Angle having stayed in WWE would have given a much better rub, obviously, but there is something to be said for the job being done in TNA- Angle's rub would mean more being that he is the top guy. HHH's means more industrywide but if you're thinking in the short-term, Angle > HHH.

But then you put them both back in the WWE, you've got the fact that Angle would just have the better match, though HHH's name means a bit more.

In the world of wrestling, however, we have learned that the name and status mean more than the match.
A rub from Hogan always meant more than a rub from Bret. |

Yes HHH is still an 'elite level wrestler' imo,but isn't as good as he used to be,obviously. Cause of his star power, for now he will always need to be in the main event or near enough. And also, his recent matches haven't bored me at all like they have at times in the past.
