Comes from Yahoo Answers:

Mahal has many meanings in the Philippines:

1. For the person you love: (as an adjective): dear, precious, beloved,
2. For the person you love (as a noun): your dear, your dearly beloved, your loved one,
3. For things, as an adjective: Mahal means expensive
4. As a verb: to love

Just google "what does Mahal mean?" and you'll see that I'm not wrong. I work on a cruise ship with like 1,000 Filipinos and they often refer to each other as "mahal."
