It's kind of the point, since a lack of interest in the product would influence the attention between live and pre-recorded. Of course, that Smackdown
was down in the ratings for
some reason. Am I saying it was specifically because it wasn't live? Well...No. But it's quite likely the mainstream is far more aware than you'd like to believe.
Traditionally, taped versions of Raw do lower than live versions, even if broadcast as "live." The one major example of a PPV given here suffered a drop in buyrate pre-internet spoilers. None of this is new information, really.

If by, "in fact," you mean "not in fact at all, but rather impotent speculation." Yeah, certainly.
If you mean "I really really want it to be true despite no evidence, because it would be convenient for it to be true," definitely.
