if the poll is for best lyricist of all time, why is the best lyricist of all time not a choice?

Anyway, the most slept on rapper of all time is from Kansas City, Missouri. He goes by the name of Tech N9ne, and if he's not the best rapper ever, he's easily top five, IMHO. Eminem is amazing, though. Way better lyricist than Jay-Z, in response to that comment about him not being able to hold a candle to the guys on that list. Need proof? Go pick up Jay-Z's The Blueprint and listen to "Renegades". Eminem murders Jay-Z on his own album. Honorable mention to Kanye West. He's clever as all hell. |

Mos Def or Talib Kweli are my choice for favorite. Besides that, Nas and Tupac.

Streets is Mike Skinner's band.
If I wanted to sound legit I'd say Q-Tip or DJ Yoda are the best lyrically, if not in delvery. However, I'm afraid that I can't pretend to be cool just for the sake of it... so I've got to say that Eminem is the best lyricist I've ever heard. I know he's mainstream so it's uncool to say it, but you can't deny that he is damn good. |

Nas all the way, i mean in the song "get yourself a gun" he claims he was crowned the best one, so.. it must be true *nodding*

The thing is wit the Em/Jay "Renegades" song. Its really not Jay's song. The original is Em and Royce Da 5'9. On Jay "Renegades" Em's lyrics are the same as the original . I dont see all this hatin on EM. The dude is pretty good I mean just cuz he's mainstream no one likes him. If anyone who doesnt like him heard anyone of the mixtape and before mainstream shit theyed know he's sick as fuck. And DS the poll is not bullshit those are the best rappers I could think of. But it is my fault I left off Mos Def, Common, and Talib. I am a fan of them but they arent diverse thats why I didnt mention them. They tend to be on the same stuff. Pac can go anywhere with his lyrics as can Em. Jay is usually looked upon for the shit he's known for and thats the singles. People dont really look into much else. "Meet The Parents" and "You Must Love Me" proved that Jay is diverse. BIG is so sick you have to put him on the list. Nas though I dont really like when he tries to go pop like he did wit "You Owe Me" because it just doesnt fit. But when he does its sick. And for Rakim he created the style most rappers use today. All the rappers on the poll credit him as an influence. I mean damn you guys are sayin the poll is shit like I tossed Chingy or 50 Cent on there. Im no fool I know my hip hop.

I know, but Wadding quoted my post so I couldn't be bothered to change it after it was quoted.
Straight from the Lab is good, he has some great lines in We As American's, but compared to Pac and Biggie he is nothing, even Jay Z has better lyrics, the stuff he raps about in 99 problems like the the police part is brilliant. Seriously, just because Eminem outclassed Jay Z in Renegade, doesn't mean that overall he is a better rapper, Eminem tends to do his best stuff on other peoples albums IMO. Like Say My Name on Xzibits's Album, Hey Lady on Obie's album and Patiently waiting on Fiddy's album. |

This is tough. They are all great in their own right.
And yes, Eminem STILL out-rapped Jay-Z on "Renegades". Even if it was originally for Royce. |

And I do know what lyrically means, I just thought I wouldn't have to say that those people were lyrically sound. I thought it was implied by the thread. I was just explaining other things I liked about those rappers as well. I just don't consider Zach De La Roca a rapper, and I could've sworn this thread said "Best Rapper Of All Time(Lyrically)". Don't get me wrong, I loved Rage, but I never found a single album of theirs in the rap section. |

Well, I have this Eminem collection of a bunch of his old stuff and underground stuff. 5 discs. It's called "Eminem: The Lost Anthology 93-03", and there are some ridiculous lyrics on it. If you get the chance check out this song called "Hellbound". It's Em with two other guys (who I'm sorry to say I'd never heard of before that, but they're damn good). That's just one example. The 5 disc set is FULL of Eminem going lyrically apesh>it.
I'm not bashing Jay-Z, I'm simply saying that if anybody thinks that he doesn't even deserve to be mentioned with some of the other guys is sorely mistaken. Everybody on that list is amazing. I'd still take Eminem over any of them, though. |

If anybody is interested in the Eminem collection that I bought, I got it here. It's bootleg as all hell, and I'm sure the guys behind it just downloaded all the stuff and put it together in a nice little order, and it's 40 bucks, but I wasn't disappointed. |
