I'll give it a couple months to see reviews and give MS the time to release fixes/patches/etc.

So is it that amazing, or should I wait a while?
Was gonna wait for pretty much the same reasons VC said. |

Also, will it suck on my laptop which has a gig of RAM? I heard it sucks unless you have at least 2 gigs.

LOL, fuck no. Will probably wait until I get another PC (probably within two years, my cycle is about 4-6 years).

I am kind of pissed because I just got a new laptop in June.
It's not like I could have waited, my college gives us new laptops every 2 years (and by give I mean charges an astronomical computing fee). |

Don't see the point in upgrading a laptop unless it's your main PC.
I had Windows 98 until 2004. I think I can survive, even if I am anal about being "up to date". Honestly, I don't care about it. It's the same basic system with an "OOOHH SHINY" interface, and I would be happy running a plain interface. I'm fairly comfortable running command line for fuck's sake. |

It does the same shit as XP, so if you don't want it, you don't need it. If anything it'll just be a pain in your ass to get used to.

There will be a problem once software companies stop supporting it, but that won't even start to happen until 2009 at the earliest.

Yeah, but there won't be any DirectX 10-only games for a long while.
I think Halo 2 (Maybe 3, not sure which) is supposed to be Vista only, but that's all I've heard on DX10 games. |

I think th best way to crack around it is by changing the time in your PC BIOS to the year 2999 or whatever. Installing Vista, not using a product key. Then setting the date back to 2007 in Windows. Worked for me when I tried it a month or so ago on the final release. So should work now.
Also, Trips, I'd do a fresh install, not an upgrade of your existing windows etc. Make sure you backup any data to another drive. |

OR it would be a lot easier to pay $150 and not have to worry with cracking it and further issues down the road.

I was going to pay for Vista, I've never payed for MS software before, I figured the life span on it would be worth paying for.
But my Xbox 360 fucked out due to Microsofts poor manufacturing techniques, and they wouldn't accept liability. So now I'm not gonna pay for it. |

Crysis is DX10 and DX9 and that's probably what a lot of companies will do at first. They really should use DX10 but they would lose a hunk of profit is they went Vista only at this point.
I'd much rather have Vista Ultimate rather than get screwed like I did when I bought XP Home. I'm not falling for that again. |

What about Ultimate makes it so much better? I've read some articles, but I can't get a grasp on what makes it better

Ultimate has all the features in one. For example, the Business version of Vista has better options for networking and the ability to create high definition movies, while the Home versions don't. Ultimate is everything in one.
Here's a list of features comparing the versions: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ns/choose.mspx |

I'm probably not gonna be using it until I get a new PC. And of course, should that happen to be soon (unlikely), I will wait for the obligatory 3-4 months to get reviews and bug fixes, etc.

Just a question, is it like how Windows XP was when you installed it in that you could delete everything on your hard drive before installing it?

Don't get Vista new, at least wait a month, not only will you get a slight price drop at some stores, you also avoid getting really poorly secured ones.

Vistas requirements are fucking retarded for an OS.
A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least: (All this is a BARE BONES operating system, no flash - no flare) * A modern processor (at least 800MHz¹). * 512 MB of system memory. * A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs Some Windows Vista Capable PCs have been designated Premium Ready. These PCs will provide an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware. A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least: * 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor¹). * 1 GB of system memory. * Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)², Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel. * 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space. * DVD-ROM Drive³. * Audio output capability. * Internet access capability. Yeah, don't fucking think so. Windows XP Pro is good times, but you know what's still the fucking man? ![]() Last edited by St. Jimmy; 01-30-2007 at 08:38 AM. |

why would they put movie making in hd on the business side and not with a home bundle. it's not something i could use right now, but down the road i'm sure, but even then there will be plenty of software choices to pick from. for my needs, it doesn't justify the extra $150 or however much to get ultimate rather than home premium. also the business networking and stuff i wouldn't be using either.

because after waiting months, sometimes years for something you want to come out, it's finally available so you go out and get it. you should also think about the recent next gen console releases. |
