Even a mad genius couldn't stop the power of Project Mayhem and Fight Club becomes our first multi round winner. Three more victories and we will have our first Hall of Fame inductee.
Last round we saw how Fight Club fared against a genius, but let's see how well it does against a retard. Better Movie #4 Polls are open for three days. Happy voting.![]() Fight Club vs. ![]() Forrest Gump ![]() |

Clearly there's at least one comparison. They're both movies.

Nah, Fight Club is still more entertaining and more enjoyable than Forrest Gump. I like Tom Hanks, but I like Brad Pitt and Edward Norton way more.

I like Paul Giamatti more than I like Keanu Reeves, but Lady in the Water isn't better than The Matrix.
I don't really let the actors weigh on my opinion of a movie |

Nah I am saying that their combined performances carry more weight and were more entertaining than Tom Hanks on its own. It is totally possible to like movies based on an actor's performance.
Also, the movie is just better. |

I never understand the people who judge their interest or enjoyment of a movie on who is in it. I have a few friends who do it.
Good actors are in shitty movies. Bad actors are in great movies. It happens. I guess I'm just more into judging the movie, since I've seen some stinkers/no names give some amazing performances. I didn't realize you were talking about in-film performances though. That's obviously an important part of a movie, and a fine way to judge it. Last edited by Jeritron; 05-31-2009 at 04:00 PM. |

I think Fight Club is a good movie. I just don't think it's better than Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is an amazing film.
It's just become fashionable for some to not like it because it's so damn popular and over-played. Plus it's not trendy or cool, but rather "touching", so of course it's not badass to admit to liking Forrest Gump. I'd go to bat for it being a superior film in all aspects though |

It's true. Jake Busey is one of my least favorite human beings on Earth yet I still found him enjoyable in The Frighteners. It's all about finding your niche.

It's all about picking and choosing roles. There are some great actors who've never really been in great movies.
There are also some awful actors who continually show up in great movies. |

I think actors like Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, and Christian Bale are fine actors. I don't, however, think they're great actors.
They pick great roles though, and show up in great movies. This helps their reputation. That, and the fact that they're all good-looking middle aged males and that makes them bigger celebrities. |

I don't base my liking of movies solely on the actors. Perhaps you thought that because that was all I mentioned. But actors giving good performances tend to go hand in hand with a movie being good/decent. Like, you don't usually pay attention to performances at all if the movie itself is shitty.. But if acting is horrible, that tends to bring the movie down. No amount of good acting can really make a movie better though if it's just a bad movie in general.
So in two movies which I like, it becomes more about how good the performances were since the movies themselves are both great.. and Norton and Pitt's interactions were way more interesting than Hanks' in Gump. |

No I'm not singling you out. It just made me think of that, and I'm just thinking out loud about it.
I understand that you were just talking about within the movie, and that's fine. |

It's just an amazing "life story" movie, even though the life isn't Forrest Gump's, but that of America in the 20th century.
Awesome. If I taught a Recent US History class I'd show this movie, rather than topical ones. |

Amazingly, Forrest Gump only has a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. And the comments from some of the critics are just mind boggling.

Most classic movies recieve mixed reviews from critics.
It's pretty simple. Any movie that follows a new format, or does anything original is met with a "mixed" reaction, because some people aren't sure if they liked it. They're so dialed into the formulatic way of things, that they're more likely to enjoy something by the numbers, that hits the notes and accomplishes nothing new. I'm sure if you look up other old classics you'll see a similar rift in reviews. |

I'd also just like to point out that Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Shawshank Redemption were all released in the same year.
They were all up for best picture. Probably the hardest best picture vote of alltime. |

Gump, hands down. It may even fall into the "Movie That is Better than the Book" category, though it has been a long time since I've read the book and I remember they are quite different.
Fight Club is a great movie, and Norton, Pitt, and Carter lead a great cast. But you can't top going the full-retard. |

Forrest Gump is a the most reactionary film ever conceived. Fight Club is easily a better film, as Forrest Gump is an awful movie.
