You guys who complain about guys who look soft...
are the reason wrestlers do steroids. People all over have been complaining that Edge looks chunky. Well fuck me dude was pretty much crippled for months, what do you want from him?

We complain that McMahon "makes" these guys do steroids. Well it'sup to the fans to realize that although these guys are larger than life characters, they can't keep super human bodies on a pro wrestling schedule. So shut the fuck up.

Same goes for Matt Hardy, he had a severe abdominal injury and we had guys on here pissing and moaning about his physique. He wasn't even in terrible shape, he just had a beer belly, he was still a muscular guy.

So pretty much the only way they can live up to your guys tip top standards is if they take steroids. You guys are upstanding/understanding folks.

no. However it is made clear in the business that you have to have this larger than life bulky body to make it. Unfortunately when you're on a schedule like they are, and injured as often as they are, it's hard to maintain that kind of super human body. However if the fans of these guys start fucking turning on them cuz they look a little out of shape, how the hell do you think Vince McMahon is going to react?

We complain that McMahon is the one responsible for the steroids, but if we're complaining about these guys bodies, are we any better?

No, we are not. It's just another example of people on the internet being the hypocrites they're kayfabe accused of being by Mr Jericho. One second it's "Vince McMann makes ppl do teh roids coz they r not big bodyd muscelmen" and then they turn around with "lolz look Mat Hardee iz fatt." Most of it probably comes from people even fatter than I am too.

One of the biggest advantage to steroids is that they allow for quick conversion of fat tissue to muscle mass.

But fat tissue does not convert into muscle tissue at all. They're different.

Roids will help you build size but they don't really help you lose fat. That's were a healthy diet and training come in. Will it change if Vince changes his perception? Maybe. By pushing guys like Mysterio or Punk he can change people's idea of what you need to be to be a champion. But you then need the audience to change it's perception. Back in that Catch 22.

As an industry and as an audience the standard is incredibly high to the point where it is unattainable. Hence the guys are on the roids.

Put any guy from the WWE roster to next to a "normal" guy on the street and see who gets called "fat" or "out of shape". Hell, this industry considers 5'11" to be short, a guy that size would tower over me!

This is because those guys are foolishly engaging in exersize programs that do nothing but build muscle. They're going down to the gym and lifting weights and that's about it. So, yeah, doing steroids doesn't automatically burn fat. Difference being, a wrestler, football player, anything of that sort is going to craft their workout to get both benefits. You take the steroids and start lifting the weights so that you build muscle. But they're also going to engage in fat burning activities like running. The benefit there is that the muscle mass gained from the steroids helps the body to more quickly and efficiently burn fat. You don't lose weight from lifting weights, you produce greater muscle mass, which causes your body to burn more fat from everyday activities like walking, running, climbing stairs, bending over, etc. The guys you see with the ripped bodies spend as much time on treadmills as they do lifting weights because they understand this. You see less of it because it's far more impressive to see a guy bench press half a ton than it is to see the same guy running in place.

Missing a ton but you basically get the point. It's probably just a matter of expecting it all by now. You've had a bunch of jacked fucking guys as your World Champions for decades, of course the audience is going to expect it. Whether it's a correct way of thinking or not is another issue.

I pretty much agree with everything Dale has said. Wrestlers are expected to look larger than life in a profession that destroys their bodies.

Edge is 36 and has a list of injuries as long as anyone in the WWE. How good is he supposed to look?

As far as Hardy goes, I bet if anyone on here saw him on the street you would say he is jacked not fat. People don't realize how built these guys are.

Completely agree here. I mean, I am bigger than Hardy, but most people don't consider me "fat" (at least not to my face.) You have never heard me complain about a wrestlers weight because I am way fatter than most of them. However, I DO think that there is an expected appearance from these guys. If you saw a supermodel that weighed 130 pounds at 5'6, you would think she was overweight...even though by normal standards, she isn't. It is all about the standard in your profession. Now, people do need to lay off of guys like Hardy and Edge...you want a fat wrestler...take a look at Earthquake, Kamala, the Nasty Boys, The Dudleys, etc.

Do people hold them to an unrealistic standard for a normal human being? Yes, but ask yourself, what is the standard for this type of "performer?" I wouldn't want to see the "average size" woman in Playboy, would you? Keep in mind the average weight for a woman in America.

Steroids also help you reccuperate from injury faster so you can work out and participate in whatever athletic occupation you have. So he can recoop from his injury and work out and be back in shape, ready in time. No steroids, no chance to do that.

I don't get the obsession with physiques. I agree that everyone should have a cool and unique look. I'm not saying there should be dozens of Colin Delaney's running around, but I do tend to agree with Newstead that the physique obsession that wrestling became obsessed with is perpetuated by the fans, and that's what leads to wrestlers feeling obligated to do steroids.

Chris Masters would be a good example of this in terms of Vince only wanting roided up wrestlers as his top stars on RAW. His 1st push has his character's image built up as if he was chiseled from stone with how muscular he was regardless of how good or bad his wrestling skills were.

Then Vince starts to push wrestlers who appear "normal" as a way to put pressure off of WWE during the steroid scandals and investigations that were huge a few years ago (both sports and Benoit related). Ended up hurting Masters a lot since now his traditional "big man" image is no good and his push stops cold. Then weeks later, Vince goes back to the "big man" fetish and Masters is released for not being able to regain his muscular body as fast as WWE wanted.

Once Chris Masters rebuilt his muscular body, he ended up getting hired again by the WWE and is in the low to middle mid-card for RAW.
