Great showing again by the relievers brought in from the farm system for the Sox (Papelbon obviously but Declaremen and Van Buren as well) Pauley started out alright the first innings. I mean 2 ER isn't terrible for your first 4 innings in the majors EVER but then he gave up 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning which was pretty rough.
Hopefully Pauley learns from this experience and developes into another good young arm in the Red Sox system. I can't wait for Craig Hanson to be ready to be a starter, they've been stretching him out down in double A ball since they obviously don't need a closer anymore. He was suppose to be one of the top picks in last years draft but due to signability issues the Red Sox where able to snag him late in the first round. |

Is Papelbon staying their closer when Hansen comes up? Obviously he is pretty unhittable right now and doing great as their closer but I thought I heard Hansen was more suitable as the closer with Papelbon being able to contribute to the starting rotation more.
Seems pretty tough to take Papelbon out of the closer role if he is this dominant or anything close to it this year but I thought I've read many people thinking he'll be in the rotation next year. BTW, not sure how far developed Hansen is, how far away is he projected from being called up? |

Wow. Francisco Lariano had a no-hitter going into the seventh and he lost it on a horrible call. Last night there were a couple close calls against the Twins baserunners, but today, with a no-hitter on the line, they called Cabrera safe when replays clearly showed he was out.
Lariano is so good though. After that he got flustered and threw a wild pitch (runners move to second and third) and went down 3-1 to Garrett Anderson with one out. Lariano then strikes out Anderson and Kubel catches a crazy golf hit by Vlad right at the wall. Twins defense has really come through today though. As I am typing this, Anderson just hit a deep ball and Ford made a great jumping catch against the wall. I thought for sure it was gone. |

Hanson has been getting "stretched" more and more this season in the minors, last I heard he pitched 4 innings in one game. I am pretty sure they are planning on getting him comfortable and putting into a starting pitching role. I really can't see him starting a game for the Red Sox until next season, but there is a good chance he could get called up to be a reliever at some point this season. He was already called up last season, so I would think the possiblity of it happening again is even greater. Red Sox best pitching prospect right now is probably Jon Lester, he was actaully rated ahead of Papelbon last season. He is a left handed starting pitcher who could be called up at some point this season, they are really grooming him down in the minors right now though. He is suppose to be the next big thing, but we'll see if he pans out. Red Sox also have Abe Alvarez who was used as a starter last season and has been called up this season as well as a reliever. Plus the guy they had start tonight was only 22 years old, so the future could be pretty interesting pitching wise. Red Sox surprising still have a lot of good prospects left after trading away a lot in a couple deals over the summer. |

But now that I think about Abe started a game in the 2004 season, not last season. Pretty sure he was called up last season as well tho Last edited by Jesus Shuttlesworth; 06-01-2006 at 12:58 AM. |

Finally. I swear the Twins are going to pull an Oakland and make some sort of a run in the second half. Lariano and Boof Bonser have both been dominant along with Johan and if Radke can be decent...I'm not saying the Twins will even make the playoffs, and the world would be spinning backwards if they won the division, but I really think we can finish second in the AL Central.

Jays should have POUNDED Pauley. Hitting into 3 double plays in the first 3 innings doesn't help matters.
lol man is Manny ever an abortion in the outfield |

Pauley got 'lucky' in a sence last night. Those double plays after getting into trouble in every inning. BUT. That's the way it goes.
Jays need to go on a long winning streak. |

Double plays seem to happen when you got the best fielding percentage in the majors though.
And Manny was doing okay in the field up until last night really, he hadn't commited error until the the past series with the Jays I am more surprised the Red Sox won yesterday and did not win the day before. I figured with Beckett on the mound they would have won then last night Lily was on the hill for the Jays and he usually always shuts the Sox down. |

jays have lit up beckett though this year. yeah i was totally surprised lilly pitched bad. PErhaps the humidity affected his curveball cause that's his out pitch and it seemed to be slipping out of his hand

Well the Jays got to Beckett in the 7th inning last time, he was pitching great up until that point.
Plus Beckett is a great pitcher, teams can obviously get to him sometimes but it is not like a certain team can just own him forever or something. |

Sheff is on the DL again and will be out at least a couple of weeks and might need surgery if his wrist doesn't respond well to a splint.
Jeter hasn't played in a couple days because of an injury. Posada and Damon are battling injuries. So, out of our opening day starters, basically A-Rod, Cano and Giambi are healthy. Thankfully Melky has stepped up in Matsui's place. The thing is that the lineup has been great lately though, getting plenty of runs with A-Rod and Giambi heating up again. But due to Mariano feeling pain in his back today Farnsworth had to pitch the 9th, gives up two runs and gives us the loss. |

Miz, that's cool. Last nights game was kind of uneventful (although an A's fan probably would enjoy it) but Santana is a pretty cool player to watch tonight.

4-3 going into the 9th inning. Toronto up Vs Tampa. The Jays almost bat around... twice. They scored 9 times in the inning.

Arrrrg, I hate it when they put other stuff on in lieu of the Jays games. I like diversity, in fact I've stated before there needs to be more of it, but not at the expense of baseball!

A's pitching is flat out dominating right now. CG shutout from Blanton, 7 scoreless from Zito, 2 runs in 8 from Saarloos, 6 scoreless today from Haren. And Harden is coming back tomorrow. If they're going to go on a huge run like they always do the starting pitching's gotta be there. |
