There's now Three National Promotions
Alright guys, We've been privy to watch Two weeks of ROH shows so far (Thanks Destor, K4L!) This brings us to an interesting conundrum. Does the quality of the production and workrate automatically make ROH the number two promotion? What do you guys think the direction will be for TNA now? Do you think Vinny Mac even notices this blip on the radar?
Discuss. And don't fuck my thread up with this _____86 shit!:foc: ![]() Quote:

No because ROH still isn't a national promotion in my opinion and their production values aren't even as good as TNA.

Vince McMahon has probably never heard of ROH. And the ROH thread mentioned a distinct chance that HDNet will get dropped. So..not really, no. Bad luck for ROH.

Give them a year and time to move to a different channel. Almost nobody has HDnet or maybe this is what they needed in order for more people to order it.

What would make them a National promotion IYO? their production value is pretty damn good for their second show. Where do you see room for improvement?

HDNet may be getting dropped by Time Warner, They're pretty decent with the satelite providers, and Comcast. I can see them making some headway with their current deal. But hey, for argument's sake, what if they get dropped? What would the next steps be IF they get dropped? I would mark out if ESPN/ABC picked them up.

TNA and WWE are shown nation wide. The "national" contract ROH has is hardly national.
So TNA is still the #2 national promotion, if only because ROH hasn't expanded far enough yet. Production value isn't an issue in whether or not it's national. |

ROH isn't getting dropped, HDNet is, from Time Warner... As long as HDNet is still in business, ROH has an outlet for it's stuff... Especially since HDNet is letting the shows be posted on Youtube. While it may not be the most ideal setup, right now ROH is more accessible to people than it's ever been. With that said, it's still number 3, and has a long, long, long way to go before taking over TNA (not in quality obviously, but in a fanbase)

I doubt there getting dropped. I know more people are asking to get HDnet because of this company specifically. Noone said it was going to be easy getting to the top. But in 1 year I can see this being number 2. Thats if TNA does not step it up and quit making a 2 hour skit show. Because afte 07 TNA really started shitting on themselves does anyone know who is on creative? I have heard Disco Inferno is on there.

ROH can't take over the number two spot on HDNet. HDNet is not a common channel. It's a specialty channel that's only in HD, and a lot of providers don't have... SPike is more or less basic cable. If ROH is going to ever be number 2, they need a spot on a more legit channel. A legit channel will cost them money, where HDNet is essentially the sweetest possible deal they could get ( I believe HdNet and ROH are just splitting profits, and ROH isn't being charged shit for the cameras, production, whatnot._)

Yeah but the demand for HDnet is going to be higher. Providing the customers TV can support it.

But seriously, I think right now only WWE and TNA are the national promotions - if you will. ROH has made great strides, but has a long way to go. Obviously McMahon knows about ROH, and I am sure - no matter what he says - he has seen their product. I honestly think that he doesn't really give a shit what they do, as 'competition' is a word he hasn't heard in going on 8 years now.

Even when ECW had a TV deal there were still Indy in a lot of ways. ROH is still Indy in a lot of ways. TNA talent has to stoop tothe low of still wrestling in high school gyms and armories when not on TV. Roh is still the same way as well. While WWE can at least pay there big name guys comfortablySo in a way TNA and ROH are still at the indy level thats just my input.

McMahon in my opinion still thinks he has no competition because his head is so swollen after the buyout. That he thinks is product is the only product. Thats why it has started to sour over ther years.

Mark Cuban needs to buy ROH.
Vince would notice ROH then, when its run by a guy with more money than he has and probably more famous. |

He's a legit billionaire who owns the NBA's Dallas Mavericks as well as HDNet. He was in talks with Vince and Co to fund a MMA Promotion that would compete with UFC but it never happened, though he does run his own smaller MMA promotion. Last edited by Droford; 04-04-2009 at 08:21 PM. |

HDnet won't make it another year. ROH on HDnet is ECW on TNN. You can hear the toliet flushing in the distance.

Not really, since the TNN deal sapped a ton of money out of ECW, where the HDNet deal isn't sucking money out of ROH. It cost ECW a lot of money to be on TNN, and it's not costing ROH much at all to be on HDNet.

I have not watched the youtube videos of the shows, but when I think of ROH I see a static, one-camera production, like when me and my friends used to wrestle on my trampoline and didn't have a cameraman, so we'd just put the camcorder on the deck and shoot the match that way.
I'm sure it's not that bad, but I really don't think of ROH as a "third national promotion" yet. Do they even travel out of state? |

Seriously? They've run and run shows in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Minnesota, etc, etc. They run shows in Canada, Japan, and England. They're not some small indy fed with static camera that happened to get on tv.

I meant that it won't do a hell of a lot to up it's exposure and will fold after being a lack-luster go.

The biggest obstacle for ROH is that they're on a specialty network that's not widely carried. ECW had a host of problems, whereas ROH only has one. Now, HDNET may tank, but that doesn't mean ROH will. It also isn't really a guarantee, though it's possible. I mean, Comcast announced a partnership with HDNET a year ago, and barely has any presence in Comcast terriroties right now. And that's the major network that's not dropping them. Add to that that HD programming is unavailable to most, that even before the issue of the provider, HDTV sets are still a tiny fraction of the market, things get harder for the network, and ROH's exposure via it by extension. That's not the end to ROH, though. Even if HDNET goes down, ROH is going to be around for quite some time. They're not ECW and this is not TNN all over again. |

Very impressed with their TV product. I think the good thing with ROH is that they could take a step back from HDNet and then move to another channel much like what TNA did between Fox Sports and Spike.
They are running their operation very well and given more time and a better TV deal you can only see them pushing forward. If they are not at National level yet they are very close to breaking through. |

Ironically, the best indicator of which National promotion is best is to look at the international picture. It seems safe to assume that since TNA is broadcast all over the world on a variety of channels and languages, and ROH is not, that the former is the biggest. I think I realised TNA was finally getting momentum the moment I saw Impact, dubbed into Hindi, in a Mumbai hotel room.
In this respect, ROH has a hell of a lot of ground to make up. |
