Goldust, future ECW Champion?
After watching Goldust on ECW last week, I gotta say I was very impressed. I have always like the Goldust character, sometimes more than others. I think Dustin Rhodes could be a future Hall of Famer, I just wish they would give him a decent little push. He doesn't have to be in the main event neccesarily, he wouldn't be too good in that position for a long time. However a nice mid card spot where he is respected and feared for his vetern skills and odd behaviour. He is a solid, solid worker as shown in this match that I will post. I just wanted for those who don't know, to know, Goldust is the man, and I hope he doesn't hear the words future endevor until he absolutley has too.

Fair play, looks like he's in much better shape than a while back. Liked that finish.

Goldust might be one of my favorite characters of all time. I'm all for a push for him in the mid card. His moments with Booker T a while back were absolutely amazing.

CSLI yeah that finish was really cool. Very realistic and abrupt. Why should all matches finish with a signature move? Then whats a DDT for ya know?
What impressed me about the match was Goldust's speed which the commentary mentioned, but man he looks stiff as hell. But you know he's not, which is pretty cool. |

Goldust has not looked this good in fucking years. The man is motivated, and is over. I wonder what has gotten in to him? It's like he's been bitten by The Undertaker bug. That being said, and even while I am a huge fan of the Goldust character, he just doesn't stand out as the best choice for ECW Champion right now. Christian is the man to carry the brand right now, and then you've got guys like Shelton Benjamin and William Regal.
One way I can see Goldust getting an ECW Title reign, is if Cody Rhodes gets drafted to ECW next year, and they do a shake-up there, and Christian ends up on RAW or SmackDown!. Goldust and Rhodes could have a pretty intense feud over the ECW Championship, in my opinion. |

Goldust has looked great. Pretty sure he's viewed as just enhancement talent though, unfortunately...so I don't see him amounting to much in the way of a push. Dude hasn't won a match since going to the C Brand. They probably figure he's an established enough guy, may as well use him to get the newer ECW guys over.

I think he is in a cool position. Gets a bit of TV time, but only to put over guys who ned a rub from a veteran. and in the meantime, he is bossing house shows, putting on solid, entertaining matches and teaching Koslov how to wrestle.
I would be shocked if he got sacked any time soon, because even without him being a big TV player, he is very valuable to ECW, more off the show than on it. |

The thing is that Goldust is an enhancement talent, so was Finlay when he was brought in to teach guys how to work a better style. Goldust just has to keep kicking ass and then they won't be able to deny him a semi-push at least.
And Noid, the idea of Goldust vs Rhodes is fucking great, I can't believe I never thought of it. |

It's great to see him on TV in a semi-credible jobber role. He's shed a few pounds and he's back to top form. That said, I don't see an ECW championship run for him. I could maybe buy another tag run for him, either with a random partner or with Cody, but not ECW. He's too past his prime. There will always be someone younger ahead of him in line.

Different cases. Dreamer is an ECW original and main-evented as such. He was the face of ECW back in the day. The storyline was "the culmination of Tommy's years of blood, sweat, and tears in ECW finally paying off." Goldust has always been a mid-carder and there isn't much pay-off in suddenly elevating him now.

Dreamer was also made into quite the joke by WWE until his ECW title win. The payoff of Goldust as ECW champ would mostly be "Thanks for years of excellent service, albeit with bumps in the road". A three time IC champ and one of the most outstanding figures in the WWF/WWE history deserves a nod toward the end. Bite your tongue, new guy. |

Ok...i'll bite my tongue The man deserves respect. but i just think he's a couple steps behind most people in ECW. Especially now with the younger guys coming in. Yeah he took some cane shots to the back a looooong time ago...and asked for more...good stuff. But main event territory? hmm....

It's nice to see him not looking like complete shit for once. If he can stay motivated I'm sure he can get a nice push for a while. Goldust is an interesting character. You can do so much with the gimmick. WWE won't and will release him within a year.

Goldust is pretty damn awesome, and he looks better than he has in years (certainly better than the TNA days). I think he'll have an ECW title run, but it won't be for a while. I'd say in another three months something will take shape.
He's doing good things in and out of the ring with the younger guys, helping them get over and such, and having the strap would boost his and their credibility. It's a win-win for sure. |

The same can't really be said for Goldust. Yes, his ringwork is the best it's been in a long time. But all they've got to go on is "newly aggressive Goldust." There's no real payoff past that. I wouldn't say he deserves a thank you run. I could buy him as a legit challenger to the title, but only to put over a new guy. |

Apparently at a SmackDown! house show in Canada recently, Goldust got a standing ovation after his match with Vladimir Kozlov. The fans are giving this man some respect.

He's interesting enough to be world or WWE champ, but he needs motivation and a solid push for months (maybe even a year). It will never happen, but it would be nice. I'd at least like to see him in the US or IC division again.

I would like to see him start teaming with Cody once Legacy breaks up. Start telling him that the only legacy he should be concerned with is the Rhodes legacy and have Cody begin to use Goldust-like mind games on people. Then they can bring in Dusty and have him say that he's always felt that Dustin dressing the way he does and playing the mind games he does is a disgrace to the Rhodes legacy. Cody has to choose. Or something.

"Newly aggressive"? How about three-time Intercontinental Champion? HOw about pointing out that his history with the company hasn't been stellar, but that he's never given up his quest? I'm not saying it's equatable to Dreamer, but they've both been used as jobbers, and they're both adored by fans regardless of their undesirable career paths. |

1. He's bisexual.
2. I am biased because he's a prime example of why I watch professional wrestling. The sexuality has nothing to do with it. |

The point of this discussion is that Goldust is kicking ass and proving what lacks in this generations grouping of pro wrestlers.

I think The Final Cut might also be, technically, the best finishing move he has had in his career. It's sort of a snap swinging brainbuster, isn't it?

Goldust's final cut move is...Show used to use a move with the same name but that was some sort of modified leg drop or something.

Big Show has used a variety of finishers in his career. He's always had the Chokeslam, to my knowledge. But he's also used The Final Cut, The Alley-Oop (Inverted Powerbomb, which he still busts out from time-to-time), The F-5, The Hog Log (pretty much The Final Cut but with his leg, which is what you referenced -- now used by Melina), the Knockout Punch and the Colossal Clutch. I'm not sure if he used anything besides the Chokeslam in WCW. Goldust has also used heaps of finishing moves in his career. I believe he used a Bulldog a lot when he was Dustin Rhodes, and when he was Goldust for a bit. Besides that, he's had the Curtain Call (Elevated Reverse DDT), Shattered Dreams, Director's Cut (Neckbreaker), Shock Treatment (that snap powerslam he does), for a while he used a DDT, and I think he used a Cobra Clutch with some name at one point, and now The Final Cut. I may be missing some. |

I've got to say, I love the appreciation Goldust is getting. Both from the IWC and the "casual fans." I think it will add up to something for him. Perhaps another run with either the IC or US Title.
One thing I would like to propose to you is this: The Goldust character being as great as it is -- would you mind seeing it passed down? I, personally, wouldn't consider it blasphemy. Well, I wouldn't if Dustin Rhodes approved it. The Goldust character is obsessed with movies, and it's often been the tradition of the film industry to remake or recast. A young guy could get a huge rub by playing the Goldust character, especially if he is able to do it well, and is good in the ring. I wouldn't like them to call him "Goldust II" or anything, but just sort of keep the history of the character, and still pass him off as a former three-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time United States Champion, upteen-time Hardcore Champion, etc. |
