It is, and we don't. I don't know where you got that from. Perhaps there was a bit more fanfare this time after screwing up the Euro qualifications but otherwise I don't remember anyone getting particularly excited about qualifying.

To be fair we did win the group quite convincingly, there was only really Spain in the Uefa section that were more convincing. I'm sure if everyone wrote off the team from the beginning we'd all be labelled ungrateful. I think there is only me that can be accused of being ungrateful here

And let's be honest, your main competition in qualification was Croatia, who were past their best following Euro 2008. Not a huge deal to be proud of really for a team like England's.

You can only beat the teams in your group. Croatia, Ukraine and even Belarus are not mugs. Could argue it's not far away from USA, Slovenia and Algeria which why this World Cup as been a bit of a let down.

Who is shouting about anything?

Mars, The Sun, Carlsberg, Nationwide?

Now i'm not sure with this, but bear with me. Perhaps, MAYBE (and I admit this is a long shot) PERHAPS they're shouting about England doing well so that some of the people in England (50 odd million, compared with 5 million in Scotland and 3 million in wales) might go out and buy their products so their companies will make money. Sort of like marketing.

Now admittedly i'm not a marketing executive but if Carlsberg did an advert saying "England haven't won anything since 1966 and probably wont win anything this year, but hey, buy our beer" i'm not sure if they would sell as much.

I could be way off the mark though.

In fact, I can recall very few examples of English posters on here coming out and saying England are amazing and will win things but I can recall numurous occassions (whether it be football, rugby or cricket) where England have lost and you come on here saying "AHHH LOL YOU ENGLISH BASTARDS!". I remember this especially well from a cricket thread because I had to point out to you that it was the England AND WALES Cricket Board you were laughing at for losing.

If you have some sort of pathological hatred for England, then come out and say it, like ECG did. Don't try and blame it on some generalisation like "the English are arrogant".

Half of my family are English. They have all been confident England will win the world cup, along with their friends. What more can I say? From my personal experience as a Welshman, I've heard a lot of it.

Besides, this has all been blown a lot out of proportion. My point was that the fans are fucking shit for turning on their country after a draw when they're not even out of the cup yet, and I don't see what England have to be confident about. When is the last time they beat a real world contender? Argentina in 2002? Come on.
