Would you put them in the HOF?

There's a lot of talk about people being "Hall of Fame" worthy. A common quote is that "if Koko's in, you might as well put them in" but I'm coming at this from a different angle.

I'm talking about the likes of Scott Hall (alcoholic) and Jake Roberts (drug addict). Would putting guys like that in the HOF be a public relations faux pas?

I know this sounds terrible, but I can see guys like that going in posthumously. It may be terrible PR to put the dregs of the earth in the HOF while they're living, but "honoring a fallen friend" would actually go over well.

I've always felt about sports in general that a guy should be deemed on his contribution to the sport and not his personal character. Yeah Scott and Jake have their own personal demons, but that doesn't take away from what they did in the ring.

The only exception would have to be for rapists and murderers. In those cases, those guys impacted/ altered another human beings life in a way that should never be forgiven and they deserve to die not be praised or honored.

Funny you should mention that. I started thinking about the subject after hearing that Jerry Lawler had been accused of raping and sodomizing a minor (which ended up being lies).

I am in complete agreement. Jake more than deserves to be in. I remember JR saying something along the lines Jake not having the greatest of bodies, or being the most athletically gifted guy, but had the ability to really tell a story on the mic and through in ring psychology. That's a gift and a half. I'm inclined to say you could learn a lot from watching Jake Roberts in his prime.

Yea, definately. I can really hold drugs against those guys going into the HOF since the HOF is filled with wrestlers that abused drugs. Roddy Piper, Iron Shiek, Jimmy Snuka etc... They've all had thier issues. Hall and Roberts are just unfortunately always in the public eye about it.

Personally being in the WWE Hall holds no real honor. The only people who get in now are those that Vinnie deems worthy, with that being said.

I don't think Scott Hall has done enough in his career to warrant being in any Hall of Fame, except maybe an AWA HoF. Jake the Snake on the other hand was not only excellent in the ring, but his stick work was bar none. Very few could use their promos to tell a story and set the stage like Jake the Snake. Plus he created the DDT.

I think eventually they both will be put into the Hall of Fame, but they would have to be sober first maybe after they both went through the WWE rehab program, which could cause positive publicity.......I also think that the Freebirds or the Midnight Express should be in the Hall of Fame

If a wrestler is known for their problems (Roberts, Hall) then they will NOT go into the HoF while they're alive. If they die at the hands of their vice then they'll have to wait a few years to go into the HoF. Now if they were to die in a non-drug related accident, then they could go into the HoF before rigor sets in.

I have found some footage that has compelled me to become not only a believer in Goldberg as a Hall of Famer, but has turned me into a Goldberg mark. Here is the footage:

I am not sure Scott Hall is a Hall of Famer anyway. To me he doesn't pass the name test. Jake Roberts, I think he should go in. There are so many guys in the Hall of Fame that have done drugs, I don't think it will matter.

Scott Hall is in. When people think of the N.W.O. most people say Hall, Nash, and Hogan. He was a key piece of a group that changed wrestling on the business side and in terms of presentation of stables and how characters were portrayed. Everyone from Eric Bischoff to Jim Ross has praised his "mind for the business."

There's a reason he was given so many chances in WCW despite being a fuck up. There's a reason WWE brought him back and gave him another chance despite him being a fuck up (and don't say it was because he had his friends working in the WWE because if that was the case Lance Cade, Brian Kendrick, and Paul London would never have been fired). There's a reason TNA decided to give him a third chance (okay maybe this is because Dixie can't say no to the boys...)

The guy had the talent, he had the skill on the mic, and anyone who says he isn't hall of fame worthy is letting his actions from the past 4 or 5 years cloud their judgment.

That has to be the greatest thing I have ever seen.
I also recall Goldberg destroying Rodney Mack in the "white boy challenge..." ...which was a win for white guys everywhere...
