NWA: TNA Impact.

I've heard that this show will only be 1 hour long. Is this correct?

AND

Are they still going to hold thier weekly PPV shows? Or are they going to scrap this entirely?

They'll have to scrap the weekly shows, I would have thought. Who's going to pay money each week when you can see something similar for free?

Have they made their plans clear yet though?

Jeff was asked about how the Impact show will be booked. The show will be 'impacting' the wrestling business as well as the Wednesday pay per view. This will be a hybrid show, and while they will not be reinventing the wheel, they are bringing new features. There will be innovative programming on Impact, and there will be no limits on this show.

Jeff was asked about having to go from Nashville on Wednesday night to Orlando on Thursday and the effect it will have on the wrestlers. He said that the grind is a part of the industry.
That was taken from a interview with Jeff Jarrett. NWA TNA will still be doing the weekly PPV's

Who's going to pay money each month for 3 hours of programming when they can see more of it on free tv every week? A lot of people do.

And paying $10 a week (or $35 with their monthly package deal) for 2 hours of programming each, totalling 8 hours for the month, is MUCH better than $40 for 3 hours of programming. Just my $0.02.

Yeah but this isn't WWE quality, tis a lot worse, so its not worth that much money.

In terms of the schedule, the whole idea for the TV deal (which is lousy) is so that they can increase the number of buys they get for the Wednesday shows (which will continue BTW).

It wont work, but thats the game plan.

I think it would be alot better with out the Weds show. I think if they just keep the one hour show a week and just cram it with so much kick ass then they could get alot more viewers come ppv time. I just hope they start off and do something smart like instead of WWEs ppv price of 35 they have theres like at 20.

To me, TNA is only still around thanks to the weekly PPV deal. I don't think they have a big enough following to go to this yet.

In terms of production quality, yea TNA is light years behind WWE. In terms of wrestling superstars that the casual fan would pay to watch, yea TNA is behind WWE in that area too. Hopefully TNA will utilize their Impact timeslot and make their *new* viewers care enough to want to pay $10-$40 a month to see what happens on the next show, something I think WWE is failing at right now, especially on Smackdown. WWE definately has the better production quality and has the better wrestlers (overall), but TNA is doing better with what they have than WWE is doing with their talent.

And yeah, what sucks for TNA is that Friday afternoons at 3PM is a terrible timeslot for the demographic I'm guessing they're tying to pull in (male teens-adults). Maybe a soccer mom will catch the show after watching Sharon Osbourne's talk show. What sucks even worse for TNA is that Impact won't even be on Fridays at 3PM in all markets. I live in NYC, for example, and Impact is gonna be shown Tuesdays at 2:30!!! BTW, if anyone wants the list of what times Impact will be shown in what markets, here it is: http://www.nwatna.com/news/2004/5/26/news.html

I think that TNA could pull up the upset. No one thinks that they have a chance against the WWE. Well honestly from the matches that I have seen I think that they are a hell of a lot better than WWE recently. I think WWE will eventually be in for a fight. I just hope that the fact that it will now be on tv instead of PPV means that they wont water down the matches. I dont want to see them waste my time if they are only gonna have like 45 minutes (since there will be commercials) to wrestle.

Well timeslot aside, the business model is just flawed. I mean lets say they promote an angle or match for the PPV, well if you skip that you'll find out what happened on the TV show for free. So the only way to get people to tune in every week or even a couple fo times a week would be to have great matches every PPV that people feel they "have to see". But the problem is you cant do that every week.

I hesitate to say 'never' when it comes to pro wrestling, but in this case I'm going to say never in terms of this will never work.
