best kubrick film

kubrick has become my favorite director over the years. i think what he did with films was completely beyond humanity's portrayal of filmmaking. i own all of his movies except for lolita, eyes wide shut, and his earlier stuff, and i love all of them. to spark debate about kubrick's wonderful body of work, i've made a poll of his movies. what's your favorite? what's his best?

i voted for 2001: a space odyssey. as memorable as clockwork orange and the shining were, and as fantastically-made as barry lyndon was, i think this is the peak of his career. it's a full-blown fuckin' orgasm all the way through, and it's just unbelievable to watch. however, it is a dedicated watch, so my favorite in terms of entertainment is probably the shining. i also love the way barry lyndon is made.

This was really hard because it is so based on my mood. I really loved his version of "The Shining", but as a HUGE Stephen King fan I was a little disappointed that he made some major changes to the story.

I chose Full Metal Jacket, just because it is so powerful and I believe that it will be one of the movies that will never feel dated.

2001

Maybe this isn't the right place to state this, but I really found A Clockwork Orange to be completely overated. Granted, it was a good enough film, but I do not believe it was anything near as brilliant as a lot of people seem to claim.

If anyone would like to debate it's merits further, I'd be interested in knowing why you found it so compelling.

2001 and Full Metal Jacket. I chose 2001 as #1 simply because it is more original. Then The Shinning. After those, I guess Spartacus and Clockwork Orange would be next.

It's really a very difficult choice. I went with Spartacus, not really sure why, probably because I've seen it less than I've seen Full Metal Jacket, 2001, and The Shinning, so my memory may overrate it just a little.

I've never seen Clockwork Orange, but even without taking that into consideration, I believe that this is ultimately one of those polls where you really cannot fairly pass judgement on which is best; because each is going to have it's own unique aspects which make that respective film really great.

i think clockwork orange is what everybody says. this poll supports that. although i think clockwork is an excellent movie, i don't think it's his best. there's something lacking to it; i think it's a little bit less focused than his other films. there are numerous scenes that i feel make the movie longer without necessarily adding to it.

also, it's his most commercial movie, so non-kubrick fans are just voting for it.

space odyssey remains the best kubrick movie i've seen.

The fact that A Clockwork Orange is an amazing novel takes away some points for me. That may be unfair on my part, but I'm being honest.

Don't get me wrong it is a great movie and he did a great job, but Full Metal Jacket and Paths of Glory (which I'm surprised only got one vote) for me are his best.

A Clockwork Orange is Kubrick's most commerical movie? Which Kubrick movie starred Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman? 2001 and Full Metal Jacket are both more well known than ACO aswell.
