Generic may have been the wrong word but predictable, definitely. 'Oh the baby is named Charlie, there is time travel, therefore the baby must be Widmore or Pace.'
It would be predictable if it was Charlie Pace, because that's the first thing everyone thought. But it is a swerve and not predictable if it turns out to be Charles Widmore.
