Goldust, future ECW Champion?

Dreamer was made into a joke by the WWE. He got a raw deal during the Invasion and became a guy who would do embarrassing things for money (or no reason, not even sure) and then eventually just a jobber. But he pretty much got a mulligan with the ECW relaunch. They never talk about any of those other things. They just talk about him being an "ECW Original" (what means in terms of honor at this point is up for debate). But somebody backstage figured his past+his work+his steady pops was enough to make the storyline work.

The same can't really be said for Goldust. Yes, his ringwork is the best it's been in a long time. But all they've got to go on is "newly aggressive Goldust." There's no real payoff past that. I wouldn't say he deserves a thank you run. I could buy him as a legit challenger to the title, but only to put over a new guy.
