I think there's some sort of metal thing that Machida had. Being Brazilian, he felt that he was superior than all the American fighters he had fought. Just like how an American just naturally feels superior than a Canadian person. It's a stigma maybe (that Brazilians are better fighters than American. You can debate this, but it's just an observation. Just like how white people feel superior than Mexicans), and a reason why Machida was unstoppable for a while.
But then Tiago Silva came along, although a fellow Brazilian, but Machida had experience and age over him Then comes Rua. The biggest threat so far. Has just as much experience if not more than Machida. You could classify Machida and Rua as equals. Both Brazilians. This could've played a factor in the mental game. You can see in Machidas eyes as he walked towards to the octogan, in his 2nd fight, that he was visibly shook (scared and/or worried) That being said, I think Machida will beat Rampage in convincing fashion, because he drinks his own piss |
