Since minutes after the comment on television, Ivory’s tasteless use of 9/11, partially as a tongue-in-cheek joke and partially to further the Muhammad Hassan angle, has been stirring controversy. Fans have left hundreds of emails and message board posts complaining about the statement. PWInsider.com offered the following transcript: “(A graphic hyping the debut of Muhammad Haasan appears on the screen) Grisham: Also tomorrow night, Muhammad Hassan makes his debut, in the ring on Raw. Ivory: Well, you’re going to be there, right? Grisham: Yes. Ivory: I’m just asking, how are you going to get to Huntsville? Grisham: I’m driving. Ivory: Good, because I don’t want you to be flying, if you get my drift. “ Obviously, the joke was intended to associate Hassan and Daivari with the 9/11 tragedy that left 3000 Americans dead. Before beginning the angle, WWE issued a statement that seemed to imply its plans to maturely handle the scenario and not mar the storyline with tasteless statements, such as the one made by Ivory. If so, the company failed. There is talk that Ivory’s statement might be used by the two on RAW as an example of Americans immediately associating Arabs with the 9/11 attacks. However, the fact that Ivory comically made her statement during a family timeslot cannot simply be justified as being “part of an angle.” It seems that the angle that has already offended so many people continues to get worse as the weeks go by.
