Since we're talking about amps here...

Can someone explain to me the difference between Gain and Distortion (or Overdrive) ?

I have a 15 watt crate that says Gain and a Marshall that says Distortion.

Also while you're explaining, could you suggets me a new amp? reasonable size too. I'm not looking for concert amps here.

My marshall is an MG30DFX...at first I thought ti kicked ass (after having the little crappy Crate one for so long) but in recent months I've come to realize how much it atcually sucks. There's barely any bass, it broke twice from inside and the sound is just overall crappy.

So like I was thinking of a Mesa Boogie type...but that's too expensive, so I went ahead looked up this Peavy here

and I read good reviews.

BTW, I'm into Metallica sounding stuff for both CLean and Heavy channels.

Sooooooooo can anyone enlighten me on the difference between gain/Distortion and offer any amp ideas? (k)
