Problem is, most outside developers either can't seem to get the hang of the new control system, or just don't bother and make their games for the 360/PS3 instead. If it's not a 'house' brand like Mario or Zelda, it's usually a crap shoot as to whether the game is going to be any good.
Nintendo definitely markets to a niche crowd, but that niche is damn fun.

Devs don't really want to change. that's why they jumped off the worst selling system and instead jumped onboard the second best selling system. Developers are hoping they can influence game sales, still, to keep from having to adapt to hardware they dislike. And the funny thing is, it might work. Wii has great hardware sales, but poor attach rates.
I think Nintendo also hamstrings itself by being "kiddie." Not because of the graphics, but because of their tendency to fight or cripple popular features like online.
