Yeah, try drivers first. Just go to the manufacturer's website and try to find the proper drivers for it.

Gotta agree with trying out the drivers for the wireless network card... from the company's website... and it should work!

Yes. If you are running Xp you need to install the LAN and WLAN drivers either from the CD provided to you with the laptop or just search them on the manufacturer's website.
