I never got far enough into the one TR game I played to see brutal deaths. If Lara slammed into the spike and was just dead, I'd probably be a little more ok with it. I think it's the struggle afterwards that gets to me.
Again, if it was Scorpion or Sonya that was struggling to get off a spike I'd probably be ok with it because that's the kind of thing I go into games like MK expecting to see.
