Just found out about the Fright Night remake. Hope Colin Farrell does good as Dandridge, because Chris Sarandon was excellent in that role. The perfect vampire.

I predict the new Spiderman Series will fail and have to be rebooted starring an older Tobey Maguire.

U.S. is gonna take their shot at "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". David Fincher is gonna direct. Daniel Craig, Chris Plummer, and Stellan Skarsgard are on board with some unknown girl in the title role.
Seen the first two Sweden produced and they were incredible, with the 3rd due out this friday. |

The Never Ending Story: That would probably be a series that they would ruin the crap out of for the all mighty box office for kiddie movies.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I heard this was happening, but I haven't heard anything recently about it. Revenge of the Nerds: Thank god that reboot got killed for now. You think anybody else will try to put sort of an "American Pie" late 90'-2000's teen sex comedy spin on it? Fistful of Dollars and The good the bad and the ugly. With High Noon coming out soon these seem like they are due for yet another retelling/rebbot. Flintstone/Jetsons cartoon movie? Great crossover cartoon movie somebody has to ruin that memory for me. |

I think remaking a western is ridiculously stupid. It's a genre that can offer up a million original stories, even if they're similar. It's the nature of the genre.
It's also a genre that doesn't (or at least shouldn't) have any special effects or big budget filmmaking, so there is almost no creative benefit from remaking a western unless the original sucked and they want to breath new life into the story. Remaking a classic like Good The Bad and The Ugly is nothing more than milking the name, since there is no reason to update it. 80% of what makes it good is the way it's presented by Sergio Leone's directing, and the screen presence of the cast. Anyone who tries remaking it is an idiot. Last edited by Jeritron; 10-26-2010 at 02:01 AM. |

I was wondering recently if westerns would see a revival. Red Dead Redemption seemed to introduce a lot of young people into the awesomeness of westerns who didn't know how great they were. If True Grit is a huge hit this holiday season it could help revive the genre. I also think a Quentin Tarantino western is long overdue and would attract a lot of new fans.
On the other hand, I think westerns may be seen as too slow or boring, or old-fashioned to a lot of the average moviegoers with ADD and hard-ons for CGI and loud battle scenes. |

I think Westerns are forever ingrained in cinema kind of like Shakespeare. So while they may never have a technical revival, the elements will always be a part of movies. I dunno though, there was a bit of a revival in 2007 when 3:10 to Yuma and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford came out, but it tapered off. We'll most likely just see more adapted Westerns like No Country For Old Men and Serenity. Because people still love the elements of Westerns. How could you not?
True Grit should be great though. |

I'm optomistic that we'll see a western revival. Tarantino is definetly due for a Western and on top of True Grit we have Todd Field doing an adaptation of Blood Meridian

Rumors that Red Dead Redemption could be made into a feature film, Brad Pitt as Marsden, google it.

This is absolutely true. Tarantino and the Coens have been making westerns for years, but I have long been looking forward to them making westerns proper (actually set in the west). They are the modern directors I most associate with that style. Tarantino's "southern" concept sounds interesting. I know True Grit is an adaptation, but the Coens had also been working on an original western project for a while. I'm not sure if those elements will be incorporated into True Grit or if it's still a seperate project. The only details they had revealed are that it would include American Indian characters and be very graphic in depictions of scalpings and death by fire-ants. |
