Here is a list of bands I would consider "emo", and when I say that I actually mean bands that fall under the general indie/punk/rock categories:

The Get Up Kids
Sunny Day Real Estate
Owen
The Promise Ring
The Early November
Joan of Arc
The Format
Texas is the Reason

Bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! are pop punk/powerpop bands that are listened to by most people who listen to bands like the ones I listed above. The point is, there are different styles of music that are included in the emo scene, and that simply saying that emo sucks cause you think Fall Out Boy sucks is ignorant. This argument can be translated for every genre of music like rap, country, and metal; but I'm gonna argue in favor for emo because it is what I prefer to listen to over everything else.

I'm not saying I think emo sucks because of one band. There is a good and bad of every genre imo. I've heard a lot of this pop/punk/emo/whatever you wanna call it music lately though and it honestly sounds the same to me. I guess it's just not my kind of music.

I'm just saying this because almost every time I read someone post about how much pop punk and emo sucks, they always use Fall Out Boy as their example. I could care less if people like pop punk or not, but I'm trying to prevent people from saying it sucks just because of one band.

MCR sucked for me but there new album isn't as bad as I thought it would be, it's listenable.

Fallen Angel gains all respect back if he listens to Bright Eyes and Sage Francis and doesn't get a new appreciation for rap.

they're probably the biggest artist to come out of Australia since, heck, men at work or kylie.

dude, how can you just say "trust me, they're hated." They got 9 out of the top 100 in the triple J hottest 100 last year, which is quite an honour here in Australia.

As for the biggest thing to come out of Australia not meaning shit, at least we don't produce bands like My chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco etc...

Personally, I think the Australian music scene ispretty damn good right about now, even if they don't make it too big overseas.

As for other bands. Well, I can't tell you. Unlike "bad" bands we export, you've had like two notable acts in like the last decade. Both are panned for being uninspired ripoffs, one is totally fucking awful at the same time. I'd like to point out all the shit I'm sure your music scene has, but let's face it: Nobody gives a fuck.

I mean, your music scene must have a pretty low bar if these are the honored guys who get exported elsewhere.

Quite an honour? Do you even remember half the artists that made it to the Top 100 in recent memory? It's not like there's a hall of fame for them or something. And I guarantee you the majority of the population - who don't listen to Triple J, mind - probably couldn't name them either. The Top 100 is useful for background music on Australia Day and that's it. A lot of bands who've made the list in previous years like Machine Gun Fellatio, the Hilltop Hoods, and Jet, are all novelties that everybody circle-jerks over for a year and then drops it. The rest are all international artists anyways. Kelis' "Milkshake" made the list in 2003 for fuck's sake. It's like the one song she ever put out and she made it in. What an honour. I bet she's thrilled. Don't delude yourself mate. The list is fun, for sure. But an honour? The world's a big place, and as nice as it is to be appreciated in your own country, it's not like Wolfmother have spawned their own Beatlemania.

Anyway, don't go chiding other countries for their output of music by saying we don't have bands like Panic! At The Disco and My Chemical Romance. Take off your rose-coloured glasses and have a peek at artists like the aforementioned Jet, and others like Grinspoon (fuck I hate Grinspoon), End of Fashion, Eskimo Joe, Regurgitator, The Vines, Kisschasy (who played with Simple Plan, just for information's sake), In The Grey, etc etc etc. We're not exempt from putting out crap, so jump off your high horse.

Don't get me wrong, there are some sensational Australian bands who will never get the recognition they deserve - bands who are incredibly talented to the point that you can't fathom why they're not on the radio when every man and his dog seems to be able to put out a hit song - but we don't have this perfect music scene that you seem to have envisioned for yourself.

A few of the movies, and a few of the video games I've played have apparently featured Wolfmother in their soundtracks, I can't say I like them or disliked them. Just in one ear and out of the other.
