From what I understand, we're allowed to base our criteria on just about anything. That's what we've all been told in the past. It doesn't even need to be on who's the 'Better Wrestler'. I, and many others can't stand Bret for Montreal, I say that's fine criteria in itself. I won't go into any more details or it will cause some massive shitstorm.

HHH
I think that their respecitve careers are in some ways very similar in that they 'carried' the WWF/WWE in their down times (early 90s for bret, early 2000s for HHH). Both are solid in the ring with an edge to the hitman. Where HHH gets the vote for me is his work in the attitude era in his fueds with Foley, Rock and Austin. All of which were well done and handled properly by HHH. Also HHH actually has some charisma something Hart can never claim. |

HHH because Hart never wanted to go over or attempt to go over as heel in WWE, he resisted it...Triple H has always at least been a guy you can depend on to be getting heat as a heel or drawing momentum as a face....tough call cause Hart is essentially the better wrestler, but I think ratings whys, HHH is the better draw because he is a better Entertainer...

Hunter.
Hart was an excellent technical performer, but in all seriousness, whenever he cut a promo I thought he was struggling with each and every word. It kind of ruined every threat or whatever he was trying to say. Hunter on the other hand, yeah, well he might be not that great in the ring but I enjoy his matches. Not that much anymore maybe, since his sledgehammer attacks are pure shit to me, but still. Besides, I love him on the mic. He's great as a heel and as cheesy as he is as a "funny face" he cracks me up sometimes. Another thing is that I started watching wrestling around 1997 when the Attitude era started for WWF and Bret went to WCW which was slowly going downhill. Triple H back then was awesome, and Bret just like pretty much everyone in WCW started to look like a clown for me. Sure, I've seen older matches on youtube and all, but it's not the same as the memories of watching it as a kid. |

Bret soley because he would seem a more plausable choice for a better mat wrestler due to his upbringing in the dungeon. Granted I'm not a huge fan of Bret, he was still damn good at what he did.His fued with Owen was simply amazing stuff IMO so I based my choice off of that.
As for HHH, I see him more so as a mic king as his promos would blow away those of Hart, but we are voting based on wrestling skill, not mic skill. Hence another reason why Bret got the edge from me. Now if it had been Bret vs Lance Storm, that would've been a completely different case. |

Compared to Bret though... I mean if we were doing a poll about who has the best mic skills, Jericho, The Rock, and Santino would be the only 3 in the HOF.

In fact, Bret cut better promos than HHH ever did back in 97 alone. With Bret, he didnt have to be all flashy or boisterous on the mic...when he spoke, people listened because he had a great knack at making it seem like whatever he had to say was important. He made his storylines look legit, and that in itself takes great talent. That's why he's underrated on the mic.
HHH will cut this 10 minute long...and I mean long winded promo that he could have easily just narrowed down to 3 minutes, because he really doesnt give you much more than that. Besides that fact, HHH has another negative. All the greats are able to carry their opponents from time to time. HHH can look damn good when in the ring and working with a guy better than he is. But match him up with someone at his level or worse, and you see it...HHH cant do what the greats like Hart, HBK and others can. |

I would agree with you on that, but you can't deny Triple H's ability to react spontaneously off the script in the heat of the moment such as a crowd reaction, or a crowd chanting about another wrestler.
A key example would be before WM14 during the fanfest in Boston and a fan threw a battery toward the ring and it hit Shawn Michaels in the face and he just walked out of the ring and left Triple H and Chyna there alone during the promo. Triple H just picked up the mic and started coming up with misc. stuff to antagonize the crowd. Thats his best talent on the mic work. |

Triple H. He has gone through many transformations, is still at the top of his game. no pun intended. This was very fucking close. I kind of voted for the underdog though.

Santino would be in the HOF of mic skills? Don't you think that's a bit of an overstatement?

Well, ok, opinion is an opinion.
I myself don't think that doing a funny accent and raping the english language is enough to be considered great on the mic. |

I am going to go with Triple H....for the reasons that Triple H was able to adapt to the ever changing world of professional wrestling in the mid to late 90's and was able to transcend his career and develop into a character that could be sustained over a longer period of time. Triple H can't be called the best wrestler or the best worker, but he has what I would like to think is a distinctive package. He can call and carry a match, he can work the mic, he can feel and anticipate his opponent, and he develops his character into the storylines in ways that fans could capture it and either love him or hate him.
To me Bret didn't have that total package....I don't think he was bad on the mic, but he wasn't the greatest ever on the mic....He cut mediocre promos in my opinon and left quite a bit to be said when trying to tell a story. Bret's character also wasn't sustainable over the years and became cut and dry after so much time....that is why he got booed at WM 13 and Austin got over even though Hart won the match. Hart was technically sound and by far was the better wrestler but I think HHH could tell a better story. When Bret's gimmick went stale, they tried to turn him heel and it had great potential but I don't think he knew how to work it right. Thus it left alot to be said and a sour taste in his mouth. Bret's lasting legacy wasn't exactly also wasn't most people want to remember him for either....which is being in WCW at a time when the management of that company couldn't manage a port-a-john let alone a talent roster of 90 plus wrestlers. I think Bret spent way too much time crying over spilled milk between losing his big deal with WWE, having to go WCW when he didn't want to and the whole Montreal Screwjob. Instead of letting things go after a number of years, he still had to carry a grudge and carry it on his shoulders like he was the only one who got screwed out of the deal. Instead where he could have said it was bad business on both parts and that both side being him and the WWE could have done things better, he could have been more receptive to something like a draw finish or getting wrote off camera via lifetime suspension or something instead of raising eyebrows about how he shouldn't have had to lose the Belt in Canada. This is kind a mismatch of Talent.... Hart goes over as a great champion, great worker, one of the best pure wrestlers of all time...but the whining and crying over Montreal even 10 years after it happened got old after 3 years.... HHH not the greatest worker....but has a hard time putting guys over himself and making them look good, and he'll always be marred by the fact that the boss's daughter is his wife... I give the nod to HHH in the end for having a more complete and well rounded package as far as his career goes. |

If this was best sports-entertainer I would go for Triple H. He is a great on the mic, and is one of the most vicious heels of all time. Maybe he was too vicious and over the top but hell it was pretty good except for who they chose to end the streak (Boretista.) Though that made Boretista, and he's been riding on that for close to five years.
Triple H's star making ability is better then Bret's in my opinion but that might just have to do with more television shows and the internet. Bret Hart is the better wrestler. Triple H is the better sports entertainer. |
